X 3 I've hunted every way imaginable in nearly 30 years of bowhunting and it all comes down to I do what I do because I love what I do and could give a rats ass about what someone else does away from where I do what I love to do because I love to do it, probably more than most. :d
Worth repeating I hope you all understand I am not talking about this style of hunting as I 80% of the time sit in fresh setups (land access limits the other 20%) but rather poking fun at the new name for it.
I can't ever remember hunting the exact same spot twice with bow. 99.9 % of my hunting is on the ground. Scent would be a problem for future hunts in the same spot as the deer are going to stumble across it. Tim
I think "Todd" got the "Run & gun" term he used in his DVD's from a mutual friend, Andre D'Aquisto... Andre use's to use that term quite often, and I always have to chuckle cause the guy never uses a "Gun"... Another one of his funny terms when he thinks he is going to make a big kill is : "Lock and load" another "gun term" Fancy new terms for old school tactics
Ditto Yes, although if I had 100 acres of private I wouldn't do near as much as I do now. I would just hang stands every where so I wouldn't have to "run & gun" very often. Plus each spot would be set up perfectly. I don't think so, but it's certainly not being passive. I don't like the phrase "run & gun" applied to deer hunting. People can spend their time thinking of catchy names to call a tactic if they want. I will just keep calling it being mobile and spend my time thinking about which ribs I'm going to put my arrow between on the deer I'm watching. :d
Run and gun... *chuckle* 'Round here it's much closer to 'musical trees'. We seem to move to get away from the other hunters just as much as we are moving to get the deer. All that is missing is the dorky music.
A true run and gun would be on the ground stalking. Me, I'm old. My run and gun is restricted to carrying in my climber, finding a tree and climbing up usually. Although, I shot two from the ground this past year. You can't call it run and gun if it's "out of my stand" or "one of my favorite spots" or something like that.LOL It doesn't really matter since those folks walked, looked, plotted, made a plan, hung a stand and killed a deer. It's hunting as long as they have fun.
