But everyone talks like the "run and gun" hunting is something new. Like it was just invented last year.... Are people over the last year or so only now talking about it because it has a cool name now or what? Looking for enlightment here
The term is also used in tournament bass fishing (for power fishing or covering a lot of water attempting to locate fish)... My point is, I never heard that term in relation to archery hunting until a year or two ago. Now I read and hear it everywhere.
Because it's a phrase coined on video now.....So therefore it is suddenly cool, hip and sophisticated.
That's one thing I have learned from my time on the net.... There is a lot of talking... But not a lot of doing
guess im even more behind times, I still dont recall hearing it used refering to bowhunting whitetails I have always did it but never heard it used other that for turkey hunting,, guess i just adopted the phrase now for WT hunting :d Thanks alot Scott
People like cool names for tricks & tactics. Here's a question...does being mobile automatically mean being "aggressive"? Can you really "run & gun" on 100 acres?
Run and Gun is also a term used in Basketball....bass fishing, turkey hunting, clubing, shopping, driving, etc... it just sounds cool I guess...
I don't know what I would call "running and gunning" in deer hunting. I would think of it as more agressive type. I like the idea, it's just not how I enjoy it. My climber sees 5-10 sits a year. I'd rather sneak in and move a set to a hot spot than climb that location over and over again numerous times later in the season. Granted, I don't have a top of the line or nice climber by any means, if I did, I might like it more I guess.
I am not talking about the style of hunting... But rather the new tag line for it... It wasn't cool to talk about until it had a cool name.
It's not how I hunted until I watch Todd do it. I was always the type who setup a stands and hunted them. I did not venture from those "spots". I will coin the phrase "Spot" hunting. I just know it as run and gun, from now on I will call it, Rich Rod hunting:evil:
Only when playing tOSU Hey it's a little chilly outside, I am sure glad I have this bowtech sweater to keep me warm Scott i know it as run and gun, that's all. I have also called it being mobile hunting. I heard Todd say it on his video. It's catching and cool to say. Like Moe-doe
That's the whole point I was trying to relay in the other thread. IMO, no. Atleast no more than what hanging a half dozen hang ons will do for you. I don't hunt enough acreage to justify running and gunning, nor do a LOT of hunters I suspect. It is a neat phrase and way of looking at things though. It definitely has its advantages though, in some respects. For me, I like the no hassle of having a stand already in place, just walk in climb up the stick ladder and hunt. No sweating, no scary ass climbers (which i HATE) :d , and no wider distribution of my scent. I try and be in areas rather than on specific trails when I set up, seeing as I have NEVER seen a big buck waltzing down those obvious deer highways in the woods. So being able to move 40 yards wouldn't really help my setups, as the wind would STILL be wrong for the area (fringe of bedding area). All that said, I suck at hunting, and am still green at it. I have one 92" deer to show for my efforts last year, so my theory certainly shouldn't be absorbed as advice. More glimpsed over and disregarded. I also focus the majority of my hunting in the rut, which completely changes anyones gameplan. Hunting early October, well I just don't have access to an area that is good outside of rut to be honest. I think that will change with a new parcel I picked up this year, but only time will tell.
