So I understand it has only been two days but its been a challenging two days for me at least. So just recently I ventured off on my own from hunting with a friend and got permission from another to hunt his farm. I scouted two days one I walked the property. I found two bedding areas and plenty and I mean plenty of paths, however I didn't find any scrapes, or rub lines what so ever. My second day I spent 8 hours from sun up till late that afternoon around 3 or 4 in a stand with binoculars and saw a couple deer far off in the distance. Now these past two days I have been actually hunting I have seen just one younger 6pt buck my 2nd day. Day one was an evening hunt in a stand due to work day two was sunrise to sunset from a natual made blind in the rain/drizzle the whole time and a period of hail. Am I doing something wrong or is this just not the land I should be hunting. Sorry for the book and thanks for the help in advance. This is the area I hunt the red is off limits. Blue lines are two creeks that meet and merge to a single creek right at the property line. Going down the creeks is where all the paths. The creek coming in from the north heading south the paths all come in from the west or the north and only head south to the thickest part of the woods. That is where I found the two bedding areas. On the creek heading from the east to the west they come in from the cornfield I don't have access to, walk west down the creek and turn south and walk down where the creeks merge together. The white spot is where I have my blind.
You have been doing a lot better then I have. I had cameras out all summer and got tons of pictures. Been out 17 times already this year and other then opening morning haven't seen a single deer. Just remember it is still better then anything else you could be doing! Stick with it and it will pick up! Good luck!
Yeah it is plenty better then anything else I have to do. Just new to this I have never hunted before and this is even my first real experience with a bow. Just was not sure if I was going about things the right way or not. I mean I drive by the area 1 or 2 times a week and the fields surrounding are filled with deer just not the one I hunt.
I've had the same issues. I think with the warmer temps it's slowed movement down. The temps in IL are supposed to get back to to normal so hoping things will pick up. your plan looks good to me. Keep at it.
