Hey everyone I have currently tried using the NAP Quickfletch Quckspin fletching kit on my arrows (Carbon Express Maxima Blue Streak Select) since I shot the blazer vanes off a few of them. The NAP product shoots amazing, even better than the blazer vanes at 50+ yards if ya ask me but they just are not durable at all. I re-fletched 6 arrows yesterday and have 3 shootable ones left due to the quickfletch vanes being so brittle and just ripping off at the slightest arrow slap when shooting groups. Do any of ya'll know of any other products similar to the quickfletch that both shoots good and is durable? I am getting tired of spending $20 to refletch my arrows once a week. For those that are gonna tell me to stop shooting groups to stop messing up arrows, I have. This last pack they were ripping off just going through my whisker biscuit. Thanks ya'll
My suggestion would be to get rid of that whisker biscuit and get a drop-away rest. Quickfletch is an outstanding product... and they even make one with true Blazer vanes. That would be my second suggestion... purchase the Quickfletch Blazer vanes and try those. JMHO
@gltomp is there any certain drop away you would recommend? I love the whisker biscuit because I plan on doing a lot of spot and stalk during the spring turkey season (starting tomorrow) and a lot of treestand hunting and really don't want one that's gonna risk the arrow falling off the rest and making some noise. I have gotten so good with that whisker biscuit it's really gonna be hard for me to give it up. thank you for your input though.
I had a whisker before but then i switched to the nap drop away. It is only 69.99 and it is hard for your arrow to fall out of the rest. I love the drop away it gives me more confindence when shooting and quiter.
I'm not a huge fan of the whisker biscuit but in all honesty for spot and stalk hunting where you want to move while having an arrow nocked its probably the best option. I have a QAD drop away and have to hold the arrow while moving to stop rattling, most drop away full containment rest will have this issue. I fletch my arrows with quikspin vanes using a blitz jig, may be a route you can take.
kazaway has full containment when you have arrow knocked. it has like fingers that wrap around arrow to hold it. also i heard blood vanes are good.
Do you use the Kazaway? I really want to get that rest but have seen very mixed reviews. Like the concept, hear problems with accuracy and failure since its a fairly complicated rest.
Don't shoot groups with em, that's your number one problem. Ive used them a lot before but just recently switched too 4" vanes. As for a rest, check out NAP's apache, I love mine.
If you like the full containment of the WB but don't like the vanes going through it, you could try the Octane Hostage pro arrow rests?... I used one for a bit and never had a problem with it
purebowhunting- yes i have a kazaway. i have not shot it much but having problems with fletching contact. the bow isnt exactly tuned yet either. i may try some diffrent arrows i was shooting golt tips, want to try eastons. i was told when i bought it it has less moving parts inside it that the qad's hdx's.
If you like the WB stick with it and go to better fletchings. I use a Bitz fletcher, Flex-Fletch FFP-360, zing primer and AAE FastSet Gel. Once they are on you can't get them off with a pliers. I have used a WB for many years and had never had fletching issues because of it.
I have had no problems with the quickfletch vanes coming apart. I also don't shoot groups and don't allow my son to either. Feathers and vanes get wrecked far to often when doing so.
Start shooting the 5 spot! Also, I am a huge ripcord fan. The QAD hunter rest would also serve you much better. You can put those in the forks and lock them in the upright position. I agree though that quickfletches simply aren't durable enough. I was shooting them on my blue streaks as well but changed back to fletching on blazers due to that, plus I wanted a little more FOC. I am just very careful to take my sweet sweet time doing a 3 degree right helical.
For those of you that use that quick fletch products what is the best way you put them on? I don't know if I have the water too hot and it's making them brittle or what. I have been getting to water to a boil then slowly dropping then in then counting to ten. Am I doing it wrong?
Went and talked to the bow tech over at bass pro today and he told me the problem I was having with the vanes on the quick spin ripping off is because I am using a whisker biscuit. He recommended for me to switch to the twister vanes instead since they don't have that little piece on each vane that catches in the whiskers. He said if you use quick spins with a biscuit that on average he seed a 10 fps drop. Hope this helps anyone else down the line
Sorry for the late reply. Several good responses to your delimma. If you want to keep the WB rest... I'd say go with the QuckFletch Blazer set up (or the Twister vanes as stated in the above post). Albeit... the Blazer vanes will probably be more robust.
