I think it would be very rare for a buck that small to have naturally shed an antler already.. Maybe he was injured, causing it to fall off early, or he lost it fighting?

Hard to say if it is broken off from fighting or shed. I suspect the first though. Hopefully you get a picture of him from the front so we can see.

I have an injured buck on cam that has already shed. Last year I had one of our more mature bucks drop his first shed on 12/23. I thought at first that he was just stressed from the rut, but I have not gotten a pic of him this year. Might have died of injury or other causes.

I saw one a couple weeks ago about that size that had also lost one side. He didn't seem to be injured so I guessed he probably lost it fighting. Would think its too early but hardcto say the way this year is goin

I had a fork horn on camera a week ago that had one side missing. From the picture it sure looked like it had either fallen or never grew; wasn't broken.

A guy from my hometown shot a pretty big buck last week and tracked it through a pretty thick area and found both sides of his rack in the blood trail but never recovered the actual deer!

Hopefully you get a better picture to see if it was broken off or was indeed a shed antler. Not uncommon for it to happen this time of year though!!

We have a deer that size running around near us. He's had one spike antler since Sept. We call them unicorns.

Just saw a find on an Ohio forum where the guy's mother found a dandy shed in her front yard.
