Anybody ever try Alpaca meat? Just saw a post on FB marketplace where somebody is giving a few of them away for free and my freezer is looking a little barren so thinking about picking one up to tide me over until deer season.
Not yet. They look scrawny/lean after they've been shared...but as a cute chewer, how bad could they be? Smoker, sear, alpaca backstrap....
my blackbelt level google-foo skills state "Alpaca is a mild red meat that is tender, extremely lean, and described by some as almost sweet. Its flavor closest to beef without the fatty aftertaste. Alpaca takes on the flavor of what it's mixed with making it a chef's favorite! Alpaca is a high protein, low-fat healthy choice meat." I mean why not?
I haven't but I just spent 160 on a hiking hoodie made of alpaca so... Dibs on the pelt Sent from my Pixel 6 using Tapatalk
It's a little like venison, lean and not super flavorful until you season it. You can do a lot with it though. Alpacas are better left to use for fiber, but they are a viable meat option when needed. www.alpaca-shearing.com
