Hey all my name is Steven and I am originally from southern California. I am in the military currently but am pending a medical retirement due to injuries I have sustained. I live here on Oahu and have recently picked up my first ever compound bow and am itching to get into the excellent boar hunting we have here. I have also been stationed in S.Korea and here in Hawaii. I am moving back to where my dad's family is from in Lawrenceville, GA and am excited as I should be getting back in time for deer season. I am married with no kids so I can still be selfish enough to pay for my hobbies (there are lots). I love the outdoors and sharing them with my family and friends. I am big on conservation so that generations to come can enjoy the wilderness and all its beauty. I am a avid fisherman and hiker. I like to teach myself and others how to survive on their own if they ever end up in a hikers worst nightmare.

    How is it going!

Man I miss Hawaii!! Where are stationed? I was at Fort Shafter for 3 years then put on TDRL for 2 then released with a honorable discharge. Aww... the ocean..now I am in Nebraska living in a house in the middle of a corn field LOL!!!

Jeff- message me if you have any questions regarding the "process" of getting out and so on. 1+ USE THE VA!!!

Yeah hunting on the cliffs right by the ocean is something else. Now they incorporate the VA with the medboard. I am going straight to the permanent list. I am pretty much done and am just waiting for my orders and to clear. I am on schofield in 3-4 cav. I would not mind staying here but the cost of living is insane here even with all my pay and benefits its tough to survive plus no deer on Oahu.

Cool Bill, I see you're a cavalry man with the Old Bill Avatar. As we used to say back in 68, "If you ain't Cav..... you ain't $hit". Welcome to the zoo. I spent 14 months at Schofield back in 66-67. It was a far different Hawaii back then. We could cruise through downtown at 50 MPH with no problem. My wife and I went back in 83 and it was traffic jam city. LOL Got me one of those crazy Stetsons too. LOL Do they still load you up on boats and take you to the big training area on Hawaii every 6 months for a few weeks of training? I know you aren't doing it with your injuries... but do they send the 3quarter Cav there for training? We also did an amphib to Molokai(spelling????) for a week. How did you break your back? Definitely a life altering thing. Really sorry to hear that. No deer, but you have a zillion goats, sheep, pigs and turkeys on the Big Island of Hawaii. We used to hunt them while we had a break in training. Problem was, most of them hung out in the impact area and fringes. Did have some good BBQ's though.

I'ts only once a year now and I am with 3-4 cav. but we take a 20 minute flight to the BI now when we go to PTA. The state government has really cracked down on what ordnance we can use and when. I'll bet it is even worse of a traffic issue now than in 83. No more training on molokai because we damage sacred ground (because you know everything here is sacred). the whole brigade is in Afghanistan right but 3-4 hasn't had anyone hit yet (knock on wood) but other units have lost people. We still rock the stetsons and the spurs and the old saying still can be heard any given day we decide to get rowdy.

I edited my post while you were replying evidently. You may want to read the end to see the changes. Glad they kept up the old sayings.. LOL We couldn't shoot the main guns anywhere but Pocoloi. We had our own tanks then. We had problems with Molokai too. It's all pineapples and irrigation pipes. WE had to carry lumber to protect the pipes when we crossed them. They still soaked Uncle Sam a ton everytime a track scruffed the dirt and rocks. Pocoloi was a hoot but got old after 5 or 6 weeks except for the goat and sheep hunting with our M14s and M16s. LOL I once got to call in a bomb run for some NAtional Guard fly boys on a herd of goats in the open. Cruel sounding now.... but at the time it was a hoot. The worst thing about the training there was the continual dust from crushed lava and red dirt. We had to wear surgical mask whenever we moved. You've served with the best. The Army today is in so much better physical condition than my Army.

Shoots I wish I could get over to molokai and Lanai'i to bag some axis deer before I left but I don't think it will happen. BI got some monster pigs though
