I said runners but this could apply to many other athletes as well. Do any of you guys ever get that metallic/blood taste after an intense run/workout? I didn't notice it as much today but Sunday when I ran my first mile since forever, I really noticed it. I really focused on my breathing today because sometimes I forget to breathe. So, I'm thinking that may have helped. A brief google search revealed bursting capallaries in the lungs cause this??? Also, I don't smoke (never really have except for some pot in college ) but I had a "smoker's laugh" (not cough) after my first run Sunday. Didn't have that today either. Silly questions but I figured I'd ask.
I've had this happen when I used to run, usually it only happened when I first started after a long layoff.
That used to happen to me in the beginning of baseball season, I think it has to do with the deep part of your lungs that usually don't expand to their fullest during everyday activities. After a long period of time without the exercise this part of the lungs expands and like you said bursts the capillaries in the lungs. Pretty sure it's not a big deal and should stop soon if you keep up with the running.
In three years of running XC (went through some pretty intense training), and all the years since just recreational running, I can't say I've ever experienced that.
I have, always at the start, usually went away a week or two into working out and running......So your not alone, but it should go away soon..
I have had it happen when I ran when younger. I was running some a couple years ago and had no problems!
I've never experienced it while running, but have when doing some extreme physical activity when I lose my breath for extended periods.
Wow! So some of you guys have probably never heard of this until now? I was thinking it was a common occurence. At least I'm not alone.
Never had it happen to me and I run a lot also I would recommend google lol it will just freak you out
