Is going to cost me some coin. I have wanted a new stream setup so I went for a Shimano Stradic FI 1000 and a St. Croix Avid series, Light power, with Fast action....

Looking forward to it's arrival now (actually ordering tomorrow).... Should give the streams some time to get back to normal "pool" after all this rain we have had. That is if we don't get more of it and it is in the forecast....

I have never used a Stradic, anyone familiar with the reel?

    Link to the reel...

Its been a few years (roughly 10), but the stratic was my go-to steelhead reel for spin fishing. I put it through a lot of abuse and in some very cold weather. It always performed flawlessly. Very smooth drag that started on time, everytime.

I could be wrong, but I think they are made somewhere else or the parts are different. I've heard rumors that they aren't as good as they used to be. Doesn't mean they are bad, but maybe not the same level they were in the past. I've been out of the spin game for a while so I don't know how accurate that is. They used to be one of the best spinning reels you could get, and hopefully they still are. Just a heads up. I always liked Diawa too and they also make a top notch spinning reel.

I've got a pair of the Stradic 3000's Scott. One is on a Mojo Grub/Tube rod, the other on a GL Bronzeback 7'4" medium/fast.

These are fantastic reels. Make sure you oil it when it arrives, it will get a lot smoother almost immediately.

As much as I like my Stradic's, I tried a buddies Diawa Sol the other day. I should have never done it, now I'm thinking about unloading my Stradic's to get into a pair of those Sol's. :p From what I've seen in the last couple of months, the high end Diawa's I seem to like a bit better than the high end Shimano's. I just got a new Diawa Zillion, and it really is soooo much smoother than my Curado's.

I've never used the Stradic model, but from my experience Shimano spinning reels haven't held up when compared to my Pfluegers or Diawa reels. I do like Shimano baitcasters, but for spinning reels I prefer others.

The Avid rod series is top of the line for the price. You will be very pleased with it.

Best of luck, and be sure to post pics.

    Thanks guys, for the thoughts.

I am familiar with Shimano reels as I own a few (symetre and saros in 2500 models) I just never owned a stradic and was looking for assurance it was worth the increase in price over the other two shimanos I own and am familiar with.

I am quite familair with the rod however, I own that same rod in a couple other powers in spinning and casting models.

Any real fisherman knows you don't throw baitcasting setups in small creeks and streams! I probably have 10 baitcasting setups for pretty much every instance you would need them for...

But truth be told, I just do not enjoy the tournament platform (thats why I dont really fish them anymore) and just want to enjoy a good time on small water again.

Uh, actually, baitcasters are all I throw on our small rivers and streams. ;)
