We had a great day and ended up with 20 sheds. 21 sheds is our record for one day. Tyler came up with 11 of them. I was happy with my 9. I really need to get another camera as one is a pain for the guy carrying the camera and having to run back and forth snapping pictures of both our finds. Tyler is the camera guy and got a good work out but finally just took pictures of his sheds as we got split up pretty far apart. I didn't get a group picture yet as I had a call to return once I got home and poor Tyler was beat from all the running. The call was a good one though. One of the landowners gets a kick out of us braving the elements and tromping his place for sheds. He knew a guy south of us with a good sized herd of deer yarded up at his place. We knew the deer where there but know no ones gets permission to hunt or walk it for sheds. Damned if he didn't call the guy and get permission for us. Perfect ending to a great day !! anyways... I will get the group picture on tomorrow night. Here are some of the sheds as we found them... Almost a legal 6 pt... Tim
Awesome day man! I still haven't found anything but one dead yearling 8 point this year.... Must be nice not having to deal with so much green briar... That stuff tears you up pretty fast around here
I was wondering when you were gonna put me in my place..... How many acres you looking on again? Amazing not at only the numbers but the quality of the bone you found....congrats
We run a very large area ( 20,000 plus acres ). With it being so open here the deer don't always winter in the same area. What was good one year might not be for many years such as this area. That is why I get access for a very big area. Our deer really herd up. Generally 50 to 250 deer in one area. While most of my area is void of deer... the spots that they winter are loaded. Makes it nice for shed hunting. We scout to see where they are and don't waste time walking unproductive land that the deer were on before they shed. We are always scouting until most have dropped as it is not unusal for them to leave an area during the winter for a better food source. We have had quite a bit of snow and very cold temps which tends to concentrate the deer even more. With it being open we can tromp an area much faster then you can in your tree areas. Sheds are much easier to spot then wooded area. This area we tromped Sunday is well over a 700 acres that this deer herd is using. There are at least 300 plus deer wintering there. Two guys can cover a lot of ground in a day. Trust me... we aren't putting anyone in there place. You put in just as much effort as we do. Our conditions are just better for shed hunting. Congrats on all your finds. You've found some very good sheds. Tim Of all things today... it got warm enough to rain all day. I didn't get any decent pictures of all the sheds from Sunday yet but will " Try " tomorrow. Sorry about that.
Tim and Tyler are built for walking, I've experienced it first hand. Those big long strides walked me right in the ground one morning, and Tim was breaking trail in 16-18 inches of snow! There's no doubt in my mind with as much as you guys love to shed, how well you know your deer and the type of land you get to do it on, that very few can touch you guys in shear shed numbers year in and out. As always I love to see the pix and success! Great work guys, keep them coming.
Tim....I gotta say that is an incredible day and that last picture you posted confirms it, if it wasn't already apparent! Congrats my friend.
