Honestly, those that can't pay attention or stay attentive I don't get forcing yourself to sit all day. If I sit all day I do get on my phone periodically but try to never make it longer than a minute or two. If anything I've gotten in the habit of putting one bud in and listening to podcast or something but keep very attentive with my eyes...this is done only when I really am having trouble staying awake.

Yeah but that method applies to <5% of hunters. Your advice doesn't apply to this guy.

Brad, not sure that my advice does not apply. All day sit is an all day sit even if it is only a few times a year.

I generally pack a lunch and just enjoy the woods. Sometimes I will get the phone out and play some bejeweled but, never get too comfortable up in that tree, I shot my buck at 3pm last year!

If you only saw 3 deer in a season you would get bored too.

Well if I only saw 3 deer in a season I would really have to take a look at what I am doing wrong. Movement in the stand will cause deer to avoid an area during daylight, or even altogether. I know for me if I get busted in a stand it's time to move on, the old nanny doe will make sport out of you blowing and warning the herd anytime you are in the same stand.

I generally browse my phone - Never use headphones/ear buds. No games.

There is no way I could sit in a stand for a full day without something to entertain me. I love watching/listening to everything in the woods, but I have an ADD type personality and get way too stir crazy just sitting there for 8+ hours.

I get poor signal where I hunt so the phone is out. I like scanning with my binoculars. I take a big thermos of coffee to keep me awake and keep the apatite down. Chew on sunflower seeds too. I don't sit all day as much as I used to. Usually have a honey do list waiting on me.

Kinda what others have mentioned. Just periodically check my phone and read a book. If all else fails always plenty of time to get some good "b-roll" footage and practice with the camera on birds and such.

ive hunted all day. for my 11 years of deer hunting in mn. its not worth staying up on a tree all day. ive done it with both bow and gun. i mostly encounter deer in the mornings and evenings. afternoon encounters is rare unless during the rut you see a buck chasing a doe which it mostly never happens or during gun season theres a chance someones.gonna either bump a deer or somone does a deer drive. then theres a chance itl walk to you. but mostly it never happens

Or you don't know what it's like to live/hunt in an area with low deer density! I can plant a food plot in the best areas and have cameras on it from August to January and not get more than 50-100 pics! The majority will be a doe and fawn with a few yearling bucks and if lucky a 2 year old, will walk through for a single pic! Come visit VT the hunting is great haha! There are better parts of the state, but that's not where my family owns land!

Just sit and look maybe close eyes for a minute but never sleep. I couldn't take a nap if I wanted to during the day.

First time in a tree this year. I'm super excited. Although I doubt I'll have the guts to bust out a game but I'll definitely check for messages from hunting buddies.

I don't think I am doing anything wrong, or atleast not a lot. I hunt in a 6,000 acre Hunting Club down here in AL.
The first problem is, there is about 30 people in the hunting club, which puts a lot of pressure on the deer.
Then there is just thousands of hogs running around the property and chasing the deer away, heck I can't even put an attractant down to scout for deer without the hogs eating everything up, and I am in Tuscaloosa, AL.... not a lot of deer and a lot of pressure, I even think there is more hunters out there than deer.
Like I said I saw 3 deer the whole year, most of our guys didn't even see a single deer and those guys hunt about every day.
And another reason why hunting is horrible is that the woods consists of 90% pine plantation, and when theres just pines, where are the deer gonna hide?
And the biggest reason why we don't see 20 deer a day is that the Club President is a big time hog hunter. As soon as deer season is over he is out there EVERYDAY with about 30 dogs running those hogs down.

I don't think it is me thats doing everything wrong, I think its just the area and all the pressure.

With that being said, if you need a cameraman of help killing deer, tell me, I WILL come.

If you have 30 people hunting every day for the season of course you won't see deer. They are so ridiculously pressured.

Pressure will certainly change the dynamic, I feel for you on that. In a high pressure area I would not invest the time or energy sitting all day it will just compound the frustration. I will admit I am spoiled with the deer habitat I have heck it only took 15 years to develop it and see results.

I sit all day from early November to Thanksgiving if I can. I video my hunts so I'm getting b-roll when things are slow. Or, if I have phone service, sending emails or catching up on the news. I don't play games.

There is some misinformation on here. For places with heavy pressure you actually are better of sitting all day during the rut. You can move your stand site if necessary, but hunting all day and eliminating your entrance and exit pressure works in your favor. If I am going to hunt I'm going to hunt, that is just me. I'd rather be in the woods. Now I'm not afraid to switch my stand sites if I feel like wind is shifting or I have some good intel/gut feeling. You don't have to die out there in the woods or be uncomfortable to the point of making hunting not fun, but if you are prepared mentally and supplies wise, and your confidence is high based on your scouting then you should put all your chips on the table when the time is right in the deer woods. Many of us don't have slam dunk spots to hunt...we just have to hunt and hunt hard.
