I sat all day on Friday and Saturday - temps never got above freezing either day with 10-15 winds. Sat from 6-10:30 yesterday then jumped out to check a couple cameras, fix a ground blind that the wind messed up, and was back in stand from 12-5. 31 hours in a stand in 3 days and nothing to show for it.
I have done some all day sits this year...but Saturday I did one in a ground blind....DEAR LORD that was cheating. I had my feet propped up on the spare chair at times. Watched a college football game.....
Nothing wrong with this at all!! I love late-season hunting in a blind with the buddy heater on full blast. There is no shame in being comfortable my man.
LOL I have zero shame, but also consider it cheating... Will for sure be doing it a time or two more this year too!
Yup, although that second half held my attention far far too much and who knows if I missed something moving LOL
I took my AirPods with me, popped one in on Friday during the middle of the day, and listened to a podcast to kill some time. It was super windy, and I couldn't hear jack squat anyways. And it was way too cold to play on my phone - my fingers froze in seconds.
Packed in a mile and a half today to do an all day sit. Got it done within 2 hrs. My back says thank you! I'll take being lucky all day.
Congratulations on your scouting paying off VS! Glad you didn’t have to sit all day! Good thing he didn’t get to bed down…
Have you seen anything good or are they just not moving during your hunts. Did you get snow? I went Saturday evening after an all day snow and couldn’t sit the whole evening. Walked up to the owners house and talked with him for a bit and watched 3 does come out in front of the stand I was in.
Yeah I went to read your lfts posts and that’s what I was referring to. Only time you thank God for squirrels, right?
He started to lay down and I was like, "this is gonna be a long day ". Lol. But a squirrel made him stand up quick..pressured buck
Last Friday I saw deer from the minute it got light all the way until dark. I don't think I went more than an hour the entire day without seeing deer somewhere. But I also think I had a couple hot does in the area, which contributed to all of the activity. Unfortunately, the wind wasn't the best for that location, so I moved on Saturday. I saw a couple really far off in the distance as soon as it got light, then nothing until about 2 pm when I had a nice 2 year old roll through. Then I saw a few more in the last hour before dark. Sunday I saw deer pretty much all morning, then I bumped a buck that was out cruising at noon on my way into the stand. Didn't see anything else until last light. I run a lot of cell cameras and I can tell you they are still moving at all hours of the day right now. I'm getting random bucks out cruising or pushing does pretty much all day long. That should last for another week or so and then start to taper off as we head into late-season patterns.
Sat all day in a saddle last Friday; 45 minutes before daylight until end of legal light, just a touch over 12 hours. Wasn't the least bit uncomfortable. I have made it a tradition for myself to do an all day sit on Veteran's Day every year unless I kill. Fourth year doing it in a saddle, it is very comfortable if the time is put in to practice and adjust it correctly. Saw a button buck 10 minutes after daylight, screwed up and moved at the wrong time trying to shoot a big buck around 7:45 am. Saw nothing until a flock of turkeys around 11:30. Doe fawn at 2:00pm and around 3pm unicorn spike that I thought was a doe being chased as it came in. By the time I realized it was a small spike, it was downwind before I could be ready to shoot. Spike was small enough to qualify as antlerless.
12 hours in a saddle is impressive - I'm still not sure I could do it. Planning on an all-day sit tomorrow at my lease before gun season opens on Friday. No idea where I'm gonna sit or if I'm going to see anything, but I'm going to give it hell one last time.
I alternate between leaning and sitting into the tree. Usually about 20 minutes in either position before adjusting. Sometimes, during the predicted slow movement times of the day, I will actually lengthen my tether so I can sit on the platform like it is a chair. Takes some pretty thick pants to do that comfortably, but it makes it way easier on the legs during an all day sit.
If I sat down on the platform it would be just my luck a deer would show up and I wouldn't be able to shoot or film it. I need to be at least somewhat ready all day long. And I just can't get comfy leaning into the tree or being in the "sitting" position. I have to lean, but I can only do that for 5-6 hours before I really start to get antsy.
