Finch I'll start my all day sits starting the 11th till the 16th then not again till Dec 3rd to the 5th. The last few days are due to the 2nd rutt and I find that's when the bigger bucks are seen more than the 1st rutt due to the smaller bucks are all beat up and tired of getting a lickin. The bigger bucks are in better shape and will travel more in search of a receptive doe. I love all day sit's, I see more and am more in touch with the landscape around me and like to pick out new things I haven't seen before. Takes a lot of stamina and must be able to take what is dealt to you via the weather. I don't eat before I leave or all day,no water, no nothing. The less I move the better. That's just me thhough Finch.Good luck .:D Rocky
Pulled an all-dayer yesterday. I have to walk across an open field to get to the stand I was in, and Id rather not push them in the dark, so I didnt get out until about 10 minutes before sunrise. Did some light rattling as soon as I was settled, then another sequence at 8am. I was able to sit very patiently until about 11:30, then I started getting slightly antsy. Thats when I started rationing off my food. I brought 2 PB&J's, a granola bar, and a bag of cranberries. Starting at noon, half of a sandwich every hour on the hour, and a handful or cranberries or a piece of granola bar on the half hours until 3...then it gets serious! All in all, I spent 11 hours in the tree yesterday, and I didnt see a single deer. I slept like a rock last night, and while my body is ready for another all day sit on Thursday, my mind is NOT in the game. Theres a few things that are needed in order to keep youre head in it, and the potential for seeing deer is a huge motivator. If the property youre hunting isnt capable of producing quality deer, or a deer at all (I believe the property I hunt my not be holding any deer at this point), then whats the point? I could have been just as successful yesterday sitting on my couch or playing with my son.
I have went in to sit all day only 3 times over the years. I've kiled 2 does and wounded a stud 10 pointer all a little after noon, so I've never actually made it all day. Tomorrow and Thursday I'm going to try though. Nearly a 20 degree drop has to have the bucks on their feet, and I need to be there in order to kill them
Guys...glad I didn't sit all day yesterday at my morning spot. Talked to a neighbor of mine and he gave me permission to hunt the field adjacent to his home. He actually told me I could sit on his patio or in the 2nd story of his garage to hunt. I thought he was joking but he was serious!!! I found a tree to sit in...doesn't seem right sitting on someones patio right outside their home. Anyway, almost after I made my 5:15PM post a few posts up, I saw the biggest buck of the season. This guy had tines everywhere...I'm saying he's a 12...pretty wide too. He came out only momentarily to push a doe around and then he vanished. I grunted/rattled (basically every trick I know) to coax him over. It didnt happen. This is land minutes from my house and where I got several pics of the big six. Haven't seen him since but have seen others to keep my mind off of him. So an all day sit near my house may be in order. Wish me luck fellas. Going back there this evening.
Get it done. I need to hear more stories about noonish deer sightings, prior to my all day sit on Thursday.
