I'm thinking tomorrow will be an all day sit for me. The wind is perfect for my bedding area stand. The only negative is the fact I've already hung a stand at this location so I won't have my comfy Summit climber. Have any of you guys started all day sits yet? I dread them but hoping it pays off. I still have 3 more weeks of this crap left!
I've had three all day sits this year, Oct 29, Nov 2, and Nov 4. Luckily I've been seeing deer from 10am to 2 pm on every all day sit, but nothing worth an arrow yet.
Put the summit beside it, i know if i do an all day sit....it almost has to be in my summit. Good luck!
It blows!!! I love the outdoors but sitting in a tree ALL DAY just doesn't appeal to me. Hope it pays off though. I may take the Summit in, take the LW down, and climb the tree with the Summit. Its a lot to do before first light though. Maybe I can tough it out in the LW.
I do 1 all day sit a year and that is opening day of WI Gun. Otherwise for bow about 4 hours is the max for me. Old man back
Just got done w back to back all day sits.....thank god it's supposed to rain hard tomorrow afternoon, I'm exhausted
I do all day sits with breaks...I'll sit one stand first thing, then the one close to the bedding mid day and finally the one in the staging area in the evening.
Planned to sit all day today but I failed to bring enough food! Saw one small buck right after 1st light and let him pass. It was slow after that so I went in for some lunch then came back out. Nothing else the rest of the day.
I have my all day sit planned for Veterans day. Deer seem to be moving around good. Will be comfortable in my milennium M100 stand. That seat makes all the difference in staying power. Will be sure to bring the goodies to sit for a bit. Iphone will help bridge the activity gaps.
Doing my 1st all day sit in close to 8 years tomorrow. Im a mix of weird emotions about it too! Im excited because of the potential buck Im after/thrilled that people are seeing actual rut activity this year/nervous because theyre brutally boring if youre not seeing deer. I plan to section off my day though. Since the area I hunt is just a small fencerow between 2 cut fields, I dont like heading out before first light because I never know what Im pushing on the way in. To the stand by 6am with a drag rag, freshen scrapes and hang a scent-wick, then some rattling, then doe bleats every hour. No food until at least 11am, then a small something to eat every hour. I love spending time in the woods, but it can be TOUGH! Unlike some guys that can be perfectly content with just staring off into the woods, I definitely cant do that!
Everyday from opening day to the end of the season I'm in a tree from sunup to sundown aside from an emergency or dangerous weather. I'm physically and mentally exhausted.
I want to add to this, What are good food items to pack in on an all day sit. I am guessing my Doritoes and any other "smelly foods" are out.
I've had 2 thus far here in S. IL the 1st was on the 22nd and I saw a nice 130" at 2PM then a freaking monster 160 to 170" at 3 PM. I just about left around 12 to give myself a break. Had I done that I would have spoked both deer, as I would have returned arond 2:30 or 3. I also sat dayy last Wednesday 72 degrees and gusty winds. I heard a few grunts around 8 AM, but nothing until 6 PM when a doe came by and said hello. I'll do it again this Thursday.
Well, I couldn't do it today. Left the woods at 11. It was about 70 degrees around 2PM today so that makes me feel better about leaving. Thinking its not quite the ideal time for an all day sit. I honestly don't see myself doing too many of them either. Sent from my Droid using Tapatalk
I would be sitting all day. Seeing a lot of movement now mid morning and early afternoon. Had 2 does, a big 8 and a 10 come in yesterday afternoon between 2:30 and 3:30. They are working the scrapes and rubs hard! And that was within 30 min. of two knuckle heads scouting walking in on me! There isn't a good time to be scouting right now. Also saw a monster crusing a corn field before 5 PM, and that was before the time change. It's game on here in KS.
I'll be doing a few here coming up towards the end of the week. Just haven't had the right conditions to do it yet. However, I've been gone for a few days so I took my girls to lunch and on our way home there was a real nice 10 chasing a doe around a cut bean field right up by a busy road. We stopped for about 5 minutes and watched (yes I did say busy, not sure how there were no cars for 5 minutes). That was at about 1:15 so that should help justify an all day sit.
I'll all day sit when I take my nephew out after gun season starts, but it will be in hopes of getting a big buck for him since I already have my buck for the year. Even if he gets a buck, we'll likely continue the sit in hopes of me taking a doe with the bow.
