As I was driving today, I passed a field that has trails that connect to my hunting spot. I looked into because I'm always up for checking out some deer and turkeys that roam the area. I saw a decent size doe, and right next to it was a half albino doe! I've herd that some people let them walk and some people shoot em because it's a once and a lifetime thing. What would you do if it happened to walk by your stand while you were up there. Take it or leave it?
They aren't illegal to shoot in NC. Its just another deer - which makes it very straight forward for decisioning. Funny albino related anecdote from my youth: When I lived in NY there was a guy up from NYC bragging in a diner in the Catskills, that he shot an albino deer. Someone overheard him and said 'would you mind if I took a look, I've never seen an albino deer'. When they went out to the parking lot, their lay a white goat strapped across the guy from NYC's trunk.
haha yeah ive heard of city guys doing things like that around here also. A guy came up to hunt bear and shot a cow...pretty crazy lol. as to the post, I would only shoot if it was mature, as my choice with any deer. I dont keep the coat so it dont matter to me what color it is.
If its legal KILL it! That is an inferior genetic, I wouldnt want one breeding on my farm. We have a farm that someone usually kills one a year, were trying to exterminate them!
No such thing as "half albino", it's a piebald deer. As far as I know, piebalds are legal to shoot just about anywhere. Would I kill it? Heck yea!
