That's not what you said though. You claimed they did what they thought was best for the herd. Since an albino represents the poorest of genetics this is either a lie or they have no clue what they are doing. Simply choosing which deer you want to shoot isn't managing your land. Stop trying to justify what he did. It was his choice and nothing more. Some will think it's fine and some will think he's an idiot. No big deal.

Then surely you know all the other complications that can occur with albinoism in the ocular, vascular, pulmonary, and renal systems and why it would be a truly terrible idea from a pure genetics standpoint to spread these recessive traits throughout a confined population. Weird from someone who claimed letting this deer live for over 7 years was for the health of the herd

You have your degree already and you are still financially unable to afford land?? i hope that is just temporary.

LOL. That's too funny to even comment on.

If its legal and its a trophy to you then take it. I would say that if I was in his position I would donate the meat to a local shelter to help quiet some of the critics. Help show that us hunters aren't all that bad.

It was legal so no big deal IMO There was an albino Doe a couple years ago less than a mile from my house, I was Buck hunting at the time and that was just not the place to be. I was going to hunt her later on but found out she moved about a mile and I couldn't hunt there. She is still around. The field I was seeing her in had a row of houses about 150 yards from it, not a suberb but non the less houses there. Would I have killed her given the chance ? Dang right, it would have been legal and I have permission to hunt there. nobody's going to take that from me, its my right!

Not to mention that they either may not have had chances to remove that deer legally or they let it live for the past several years because the townsfolk enjoyed watching it. Who's to say the time finally came when the hunter did in fact believe the deer was as old as it would ever get due to health and decided to go ahead and kill it.

You don't always manage to a black or white standard and there are always circumstances that could be argued the other way. There are few absolutes in life, war or deer management or hunting for that matter.

That isn't what you said though. If you'd like to go back and change your story in hopes that it sounds better I certainly wouldn't blame you. I can see why.

This is definitely a slippery slope. Some believe the albino is a sacred animal while others believe its a genetic defect. He is indeed a beautiful animal but then again to me they all are.

Would I shoot it or pass given the opportunity? I would indeed shoot it providing the kill was legal. I do care about what others think but at the same time why should I let someone else's beliefs infringe on mine. That is a two way street.

I am though, unsure why we have to call each other names over the topic. We are all hunters right? The forum is bowhunting.com right? If we dis agree we can do so respectfully right?

I know that all sounds Polly Anna and such but geez really. There are much more important things that we should be fight for like ensuring our kids and grand kids can still hunt and fish.

Its the natural cycle of life, all animals die. Better to fall to a hunters arrow and flesh consumed than to a die getting run over by a car and pitched aside to rot in a ditch. No? The headlines would have been the same white deer slain by car, catch the details at 6:00. UGGH!!

That looks to be an accurate informational article written with facts and not just an emotional rant to stir up crowds for more publicity. I can't believe any kind of media reports that way any more.
Definitely a good read on the issue
