    Hey there everyone,

I would like advice/help on getting a job on the north slope. I am originally from MN but spent 3 years in the oilfields in Utah. I am currently running frac sand in Wisconsin for the same company I worked for in Utah. Before I decided to go into the oil/gas industry, I was a carpenter for 8 years. After long discussions with my wife we decided we are interested in moving to Alaska. I am very mechanicaly inclined, professional, quick to think in tight situations, and have a very strong work ethic. I'm not interested in getting rich quick, (like some people like to tell you on all these shows you see nowadays)just providing a rewarding life for my wife and 3 children. I have tried applying to jobs online but haven't had the opportunity to be blessed with such a great job. I met a fellow in southern MN about 5 years ago that offered me a job up there but I was not in the position ( ready to have a baby) to leave unfortunately. Ever since then, that day has played back in my head 1000s of times. Anyways, any help/leads/anything would be more then appreciated. :D

Nice! Always stop at the casino on the way up to my uncle's cabin by Duluth.

Where in Alaska do you want to work? Most don't live up in the patch they go in work and leave, 4 days on in camp. Alaska is a hard place to get used too, not as romantic as you think.

Sota, yes I know you can't live where the oil is. I have spent most of my working life either in Minnesota or North Dakota where temps are reaching -40 to -60 with wind chills. I understand it's not for the light hearted and am more then prepared for the monstrosity that the north slope has to offer. I am not looking to to move to Alaska for the romantic features(although those are always a plus) I am looking for a challenging and rewarding career. I have experienced camp type life and seemed to do quite well I guess.

Several guys I know do two weeks on two weeks off up on the North Slope, heading up for work from either Fairbanks or Anchorage... Not sure the hiring situation currently though with oil prices steadily dropping still. Frac Sands have to be nearing the cut off point don't they?

Good luck with the search. Still have the contact info for the guy from years past? Might be a good starting point. I hope to move to Alaska myself this coming year.

Yeah, two on two off from what I've heard also. Frac sand is doing well but the price of it has dropped significantly since the beginning due to the large number of sources/companies it comes from now. I really wish I still had that guys number, unfortunately I don't. From what I've been told and from what I have read, oil is suppose to kick back soon enough. Thanks for the encouraging words, and I wish you the best also. I just need that nudge in the door, ya know?

I can not help much off hand for North Slope but I can keep my ear open. I have been in the oilfield for 5 years now, currently in Ohio. I was in North Dakota up until a couple months ago taking this position. I will ask around and see if I can find anything for you. I talk to people all day, and some might have info I can give you. There is plenty of work up there though, it might take time considering you are stuck in the main land and cant apply in person. But don't give up applying online and making phone calls. Don't be shy, call after you apply as Im sure you are doing. Ask questions when you call. Bug them for info. Its ok to call these places and get facts from them. They have answers so ask away. PM me if you would like, and I will give you my email so we can keep in touch off this thread.

    Cmonsta,

Thanks for the help. I have to say, it seems extremely tough to pursue a career in the patch in Alaska. But like with everything and like you said, persistence is everything. Being strong willed and the amount of determination/skill sets I have, I really hope it works out. I will pm you my email address and we can talk more. Thanks again!
