This will be an ongoing thread with a LOT of pictures and a brief breakdown of the trip added later. For now I will leave you with pics of my 3 bucks, the final outcome, and a fish caught ninja style with my bare hands. My first buck. Grossed 94" My second buck, much smaller (which we knew) 81", but went after it because it made MY standard and it made for a cool video angle (cameraman in front of deer with me stalking in from background). And my third and final buck, coming right in the middle for score at 85". Great video with the cameraman up and behind me by about 45 yards when I moved in for the shot. I coaxed him from his bed by declaring outloud " Hey buddy, look over here...look over here....I'm going to shoot you....thwack" The pinks were starting to spawn up the streams and rivers BIG TIME, and we spent about 1.5 hours chasing these suckers around snagging them with our bare hands. GREAT fun for a KY boy who has never seen ANYTHING like that. lol And the final product, about an hour before the plane was scheduled to fly in and pick us up a day early (because we tagged out). How cool is this pic?!
The first one had just under 5" bases which carried all the way to the third H3 measurement. Mass is what boosted him WAY above all the others. The third is camera angle more than anything, spindley mass with shorter tines. One of the G3s doesn't even qualify as a point.
C'mon man, I've seen those already! (Except for the one of your 2nd buck, that's an awesome backdrop for that pic!!!!) Nicely done Trevor!
Awesome job Trevor. Great pics of some beautiful deer and very beautiful country. Quite the feat for someone your age. (Blacktails bigger than our whitetails. Makes me wonder what you would be capable of in a Big buck location.) Great memories for sure. I'm jealous.
When Robs house is full that first night, you have to rough it with his ferocious critters sneaking in to your camp. Luckily no one felt like target practicing that night, lol. Don't EVER...ever ever ever...believe someone when they tell you you are eating salmon, unless you are in Alaska. WOW was it amazing. Rob was the chef that night. My savior for the trip, as we desperately picked apart the lower basins before hiking to the peak, the darn bucks always stayed up top though! This is what a reaction looks like to spending a few grand to travel 3000 miles to bowhunt deer, only to have to wait on fog to lift for the first 1.5 days. We were VERY impatient to get started! When you have no pen and paper in your pack, you have to get creative on how to leave a message for your hunting partner at the meeting place when you are elsewhere cleaning a deer. Check out the TP message left behind at his pack after my first buck.
Anyone know what causes these puss filled infections of velvet? My first buck was perfect, my second had probably 25 of these! Pretty gross, but they dried out eventually just like the rest of the racks.
Trev thats outstanding, Man the scenery is breathtaking to Those are some awesome blacktails, you got velvet and hard horn congrats buddy, im sure you will never forget that trip.
very nice...never thought I'd care to hunt Sitka...that just changed Trev, how do you like spot/stalk for deer vs. the typical stand hunting for whitetails? I'm thinking I would really enjoy that... Also curious...what is estimated ages on your deer?
