I am applying for a gator license this year in Alabama. The record last year was a 13 footer. Anyone done this?
its been a dream of mine ever scence i saw an article on it somewhere they guy taged a 13 footer or like 12 foor 6 i wana say. man oh man if i could ever get one i got the mount all ready planned out.
I used to see some enormous gators while bowfishing in South Carolina. I see them all over Lake Eufaula in broad daylight so I don't think finding one will be a problem if I draw a tag. I also see them on the Alabama River though not as frequently. I think knowing who has whom once the arrow is in will be the biggest challenge.
im not sure if its legal in your state or not but i remember reading in a fur fish and game mag that the gators responded very well to animal distress calls.
Thanks... I will have to see if I get a license and then I will be shooting from the hip. There is a mandatory course that has to be attended before anyone can go after them. If I get drawn, I am sure I will learn a lot more about the laws in the class. I was planning on just using a spotlight and my bow with a 22 pistol.
make sure you bribe a few friends to come with you so you can pull the monster 500 lbs out of the water haha!
im sure a large cooler of beer would change there mind (; but you would be un able to drink because you are hunting!
And because I am a Southern Baptist Pastor... no judgment on others ... just not allowed for me. I am hoping the novelty will attract a few helpers.
well good luck to you finding someone even those seasoned pros on swamp people need a hand every once in a while
I been looking into outfitters a lot for this but just don't like what I see. I wanna look into drawing a tag and doing it myself sometime. Need to make some friends in the south lol. Seems like all the outfitted hunts are...to easy?.. they are always one night hunts for a bunch of money. I wanna hunt them in light, and do a spot and stalk kinda deal. I seen it on tv when I was a kid and wanted to since. Always been a huge dream of mine.
I actually thought of changing my residency this year so I could apply for a Bama gator tag while living there. Let me know if you draw the tag. I have the reel/equipment to shoot one already and wouldn't mind slipping away one weekend to watch one killed if you are interested.
