Got a chance at a bowtec air raid. Not sure of accessories or specifics but price sounds reasonable. I have no experience with bowtec and would like some opinions?
Brand new from an individual is different than brand new from a shop... From a shop, you're looking in the neighborhood of $729 or so roughly. From an individual, you're looking at $600 - $650 or so probably. Those are rough guesses, but I'd be willing I'd be pretty close if I took the time to search a few forum's classifieds. Nice bow, by the way. Fast and very shock-free for the speed its generating thanks to its past-parallel limbs. LOVE the length of its platform. Only thing I'd do if I bought it is toss the one-piece wooden grip and order the sideplates from BowTech; they'll fit perfectly (same grip mold as all the other top-of-the-line CP bows). I actually thought about picking one up and having it dipped in Predator Fall Gray, but I've got too many bows as it is.
The Air Raid was my main 2009 bow. I actually like the different grip vs the side plates( I was a previous side plate lover) While I still like the side plate, on the Air Raid, you will lose some draw length in the change to side plates. I found the grip to be very repeatable. I am looking forward to playing with my Destroyer as the grip (shape) looks to be the best of both. Enough about the grip, the Air Raid was (and still maybe) my favorite Bowtech to date. I am shooting a 10 Sentinel now that is pretty awesome. If I am disappointed by the Destroyer, I will likely order another Air Raid and have it dipped as it's only flaw in my book is the single camo option. Real world numbers: 30.5 Draw, 64.5 pounds, 430 grain arrow, 294fps. Great bow, if you can pick up a new one for 720 or less you are doing good.
Wouldn't you GAIN dl by removing the one-piece grip and adding side plates Ben? Since you're removing a bit of thickness behind the riser, you're actually able to push the bow away from you more (however minutely)...
Right, I phrased it wrong. You'd gain DL without the gain in speed. From what I've heard from people who've made the change to sideplates, they've had to compensate the change in DL by moving to the next .5 inch mod setting down. For example, if I had changed to sideplates, I'd have to move to the 30 inch setting from the 30.5 setting.
We'll see what happens when my custom red/black side plates get here for my D340... I may have to, but then again maybe not (drop down 1/2").... since the reason Craig used the plastic grip on that model is because he could make it super thin without risking it breaking because of the material (wood) and yet still get the shape he wanted for consistent hand placement. But a more traditional, thicker one-piece wood grip? Yes, I would most definitely see myself going down a 1/2" when moving to side plates... Is this helping you any, Iowa? LOL! :D
Yes it helps tremendously. I appreciate everyones help on this site. This is the year i become a better hunter and alot of that is because the people on this site thanks again
