Does anyone on here hunt with air rifles? i just ordered one? just wondering what type others own? i bought a gamo varmit hunter tact. rifle
RWS, It's all you need for squirrels, and what not. I can't stand people that use shotguns while hunting small game. There is no need for it.
Hey, I do some small critter hunting with a shotgun. It's illegal on many public hunting areas in IL to use a rifle or airgun for small game.
If I listened to most of the online arrow flingers, I'd have no reason to own a gun. Personally, I feel its MUCH safer to shoot a load of pellets in a tree vs a .17 cal bullet. I can't stand people that gimp animals because they are hunting them with kiddie guns.
Never "Gimp'd" one yet. There is a simple solution to that problem though. Don't take shots that you are not sure of. Easy enough for me. For the record. It's .22cal, and they are traveling at appox 1200 fps. Yes, That was 1200. RWS Pellet gun with a overly compensated scope. Never had one live long enought to hit the ground. I don't shoot squirrels while they are in their holes. I don't shoot them in their nests. Just crossing branches, and while they are trying to hide. THere is just not enough meat on them to make me want to throw a hundred "BB's" at them. Then again, I could just start using slugs, or better yet!!! I could use a 30-08! Would that suffice?
The kiddie gun comment was about hunting small game with a pellet gun. Rabbit also falls into the small game category. I'm sure Lee Harvey snipes his rabbits with his pellet gun as they run by....he does have that overcompensated scope....whatever that means. :D By 17 cal, I was talking rimfire, not pellets. I just don't think that is safe to shoot up in the air with a rifle. Sue me. MNKK stated his opinion about hunting with shotguns, I stated mine.
Im pulling your chain bb. My .17 is a rimfire, and you do have to be careful, they have a dangerous range of something like 1 3/4 miles. But I will say a .17 pellet VS a shotgun.... Give me the air rifle.
I don't hunt with one.. but I always have my Red Ryder loaded and ready sitting in the laundry room. Goofy chick down the street lets her cats out at night.. and the darn things keep coming into my yard.. feasting on my tree frog population.. which I have to say ticks me off to no end. Shot one right in the kisser last summer from the sliding glass door. Haven't seen him much since.. but the wife and neighbors think I'm semi crazy.:d Gotta love 'the burbs'. One thing I forgot to mention.. over the past few months an owl has moved into the vicinity.. hoots like mad at all hours of the night (the other night from my roof.) Point being.. sooner or later 1 of those cats is gonna get their dues.. if they haven't already.
What a coincidence. L. H. Oswald was a Marine too. It's kinda weird that you would mention him. Idk, I just thought that was odd.
Honestly, How big of a scope does one need on a pellet gun??? I see eyes at 30yds. Not practical at all, but fun. I don't know why I used the word overcompensated. That isn't the word I was aiming for. Opinions are always welcome, I expect them actually. That is something I love about this place.
