I have been asked many times about proper aiming from the stand . it seems there are many different opinions . so I thought id through this out there to see what everyone says .. with a pin sight . I q retnia lock I seem to be hitting high on all my shots as well . now using a pivotal sight it was a problem I couldn't answer so no I seem to be having the same on . ground.. sighting is dead on out to 50 yds and I don't think sighting from the tree is the real answer . so opinions from the experts plz. I do use a archers choice rangefinder.
huh? I'm not sure what you're actually asking. But if you're shooting at an angle, gravity is only acting on the arrow on the horizontal distance. Therefore, if the straight line from your treestand to the deer is 25, the actual distance that you need to aim might be 22 or 23 yards...it depends on the angle. your form can also throw the shot. make sure you bend at your waist and keep your torso and arms the same as if you were shooting level. http://archeryreport.com/2010/06/uphill-downhill-shots-adjust-proper-arrow-impact/
If your range finder already compensates for the incline/decline, you just point and shoot using the ranged distance. If it doesn't, then you have to compensate by aiming low for uphill/downhill shots.
I have this thing on my range finder called arc mode, which it tells me what distance to shoot as depending on the angle, it is always dead center. I usually hit where I am aiming, Everyone has different ways and techniques, shoot a lot from the stand at various distances to see what works for you, Good luck! Perfect Practice makes perfect. I was shooting from a 20' elevated platform this weekend. I shot well at 20 and 30 yards, but had some misses out at 40 yards. My guess is form. I found that physically drawing level and getting anchored then bending at the waist was easier the steeper the angle. (20 and 30). Then at 40 the angle of elevation is not as steep so i was drawing at the target instead of level. I'll work on it some more next week. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Take an extra second to check the peep alignment on the sight ring will let you know if you are bending at the waist properly.
I just aim for the suspected exit point. As well as bend at the waste. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
thanks guys i am suspecting in the moment i am not bending properly. the mathews is dead on from the ground. time to get in the stand and practice.....
I`m new to shooting out of a tree stand and when practicing out of it, I practiced like you described and had the same outcome. I see why there are so many short bows on the market, you really have to watch the lower cam and hand rail.
