-27 yesterday morning and -24 today. We're making good ice now, 9-10 inches as of last night.

Time to dust off the snowshoes and break out the handwarmers so I can hunt across the lake this weekend. Should be above 0 by then.

A week ago I was in Hawaii... 85 there. 110 degree change just aint right :D

Gotta add to the freezer, only 15 days left!

I'm right there with you, Fitz. Good luck. The coldest weather I have hunted in is 2 degrees, and that was with a calm wind. You upper Minnisoda guys are badasses.

What a dramatic change, Hawaii to home. Winter is starting to roll in Michigan also. It has been around 6 degrees at night. We have around 6" of snow where I'm located. I have been hunting, and you can I bet I have been packing the hand warmers in my pockets. Good luck out there and stay warm.

    Fitz,

I imagine it is a bit cold there in N MN. Stay warm and safe. :nana: Best wishes to you on your hunts over the next 15 days.

It's been a little chilly here in IL. Over the past two days I've only been able to play a little cat and mouse with the deer. I have about a month left so hopefully my patience and persistence will pay off.

I hear ya Fitz!! Been out the last 2 days hunting In this -15 below crap. I got chilly yesterday hunting being the wind was blowing 15 mph. I'm going to stick It out for a nice buck for another 7 to 10 days and then all bets are off If a nice doe shows her face.

    Good luck!!

I am not giving up yet either. But, I NEED to get out and do some scouting this weekend now that we have 10 inches of snow on the ground. This has changed everything. I need to find where they are feeding now because it sure as heck is not in the farm fields.

Only -15 here in the mornings Fitz, I've been in shorts and a wife beater. Down here, the hunting gets a little easier, when we have 17 inches of snow and cold. The deer concentrate and you just find the active snow trails leading to the food source which is usually a corn field. What kind of food sources do you concentrate on this time of the year up there?

We're in the low 20's here today, and I'm still going to be bundled up like crazy.

I've killed a few deer in the snow with my gun, but never with my bow. Hope to change that later this afternoon!

DUDE!!! I don't know how you hunt in that! Our coldest is single digits at the end of shotgun and that is not even every year. I think the coldest I hunted this year was teens (real feel). As was stated earlier:

"You upper Minnisotans (?) are badasses!!!

    ...Minnisotites? Minnisotians? Minnisotions?.....

I was plumbing an unfinished house this morning, it was -17 on my way to the job site...that was chilly.

Headed out to the blind now :) Layer up boys.

Hard to say. There are no fields or plots here. Never seen an acorn here either. The deer survive entirely on browse year round. There are a few areas with cedar consentrations, but the majority of those are browsed higher than they can reach now, from previous winters.

That's what I love about it up here (though highly frustrating 98% of the time), deer can eat anywhere, bed anywhere, scrape & rub anywhere, and with 100's of lakes within 15 miles of here, they can drink anywhere.

It has certainly forced me to become a better hunter and woodsman, but I have a long ways to go. And like I said, the freezer has too much space left. Another doe or a buck would be great, but still short of my goal for this year. Looks like I'll have to put a dent in the winter crappie population :ninja:
