How do you age a doe? Been sitting in the stand and have had a couple of shots at does, but they just look so small. This could be because iv never taken a doe, only bucks in the past. Just wondering if you guys have any tips on how to tell if im looking at a mature doe. Just would rather take a mature doe over a younger one. Thanks in advance.

The best way is to look at their teeth, but that’s a challenge while their still alive.. I look for large body, darker in color, bigger/prominent brisket. Pop the biggest one out of the bunch. Good luck.

I look to make sure they don;t have a waistline. Usually a mature doe won't have a small waist. Their face will be gray around the eyes and muzzle. If in a group they will be the one that is watching out for the rest. Really keepng an eye on everything and looking around the most. Usually if there i

I also have learned that if they have a longer snout or nose this is usually an indicator that she has a few years under her belt. the younger does will have a shorter nose.

Very tough to do. Most times I have no problems In distinguishing a doe from a fawn. For me to tell you how old she Is, ain't happening! I've heard other people say on here that a doe Is at It's biggest at 2 or 3 years old. I don't necessarily agree with It but that's just my opinion.

I agree with the snout... The younger ones will be short and "cute" looking.. As they grow older, the snout grows.. I have taken very old Doe's where there was actually a "hump" on the bridge of the nose.. Kinda a curved snout.. The more I started paying attention, I noticed that there is a slight hump on mature Doe's snout/noses.. I guess it just comes with age and a longer snout.. BIG Doe's will have a really elongated snout.. At least this is what I have noticed on MY lease (central/South Georgia)............ After 8 years on this lease, the theory has kinda held pretty true............

I've heard the snout thing also. we used to have this monster of a doe running around our place and we called her the horse doe because her face was so long.
