I was curious how old you guys think this buck is? Here are a couple pics only have one with both sides as he already shed one side. I have had him within shooting range twice in the last two weeks but I hate to shoot him with only one side. For my area he is a pretty good buck.

My initial guess was a 4-1/2, based on the November picture. But after looking at him in Jan. that might be a very old deer, on his downward spiral. His front shoulders are massive, even in late Dec and early Jan. If you look at the November pic, also, his forehead is quite broad, another characteristic of an old deer.

Yeah I was thinking he might be going down hill rather than up. I wish he had both sides because he is definitely mature and I had two great opportunities to harvest him just couldn't bring myself to shoot without both sides. Deer in my area don't usually make it much passed 3 because the gun clubs drive our woods pretty hard and shoot anything 3" or better.

Very hard to tell, he very well could be an old buck. Too bad you didn't have any pictures in color, I'd like to see the colors around his snout, sometimes that helps in determining age when you just can't tell otherwise.
