Our bucks down here in MO and KS lose a lot of weight by the end of the rut and start gaining some back over winter. They are generally in pretty rough shape by January's end and then as their habits get back to normal they start packing on the pounds to stay warm through the last part of winter. By the time spring starts they change coats and trim down to deal with the coming summer heat. I'm not changing my age estimate either BTW. I would like to say he's older than 3 and he may be 4 but that rump still looks shaped wrong for older than 3, maybe the angle or something. Do you know how old that deer is for sure?
No idea, it's very misleading. Short height, small head, small rump. Nice horns nice belly... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
We also have a lot harsher winters here, 3-4ft of snow and -50 degrees. They don't gain weight in the winter here Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have never tried to follow bucks over the winter and keep track of them from year to year, it seems like it would be really hard Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
My guess is 3.5. Hopefully he'll be photogenic so you can get more and closer pictures of him. Then maybe we can take a better guess.
When I first saw the pic without the horns he looked like he was about 3. After I saw the horns on him, I still think he is about 3, 3.5.
That's about where I was, hopefully he is a 2 1/2 with good Potiential Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'd really have to see how he finishes out, if he grows some tall tines or if I get some interesting pics/ experiences than yes there is a chance! Usually about 120 is my cut off +- experiences/special reasons Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
