i think hes 4.5 years old but i will know tonight after getting the jaw bone out, he will only gross 140-145 at the most, . Short tines suck but thats why i shot him were trying to cull these deer out, but still a great buck weighed 198 lbs dressed and he is gonna make some great sausage, you should see the size of the tenderloins. P.S. my girls wanted to help me drag him out of the beans so the wife brought them out to me then they wanted their picture taken with it since they helped. check out the smile on their faces thats almost priceless :D ok he is 4.5 and grossed 142 5/8

i was in my stand on tuesday night and he came in at about dark i let him walk by then told my dad about him when i got out of the stand. dad told me i needed to take him out of the breeding pool if i was sure he was older than 3.5 so i went out wednesday at about noon and walked along the river bank about 900 yards closer to there bedding ground where he came from the night before. i hunkered down in some heavy cover along the river and cleared a few shooting lanes to the field. i sat there for about 4 1/2 hours and only seen 3 deer so i grabbed my rattle bag and buck roar stood up and started rattling breaking sticks and crashing leaves with my feet about 15 minutes later here he was 10 yards trying to get between me and the river mind you the wind is blowing straight across the river. he got nervous and backed up then walked right out in front of me so 15 more minutes had gone by and i looked him up and down guessed him at 4.5 years old. he goes behind some good cover and i drew back he walked 10 more feet and i shot him standing 6 yards away he ran about 35 yards and fell over. then i started looking at how i was gonna get him out of there and my legs started to weep. so i called my wife told i would be a while i shot a buck and she said the girls wanted to help. so i gutted the deer and waited for my mini hunters to get there, they arrived and we drug him out. so that was the night then today my buddy caped him out and then aged him by his jaw bone and turns out he was 4 1/2 years old so i felt gratitude in my ability to age a deer on the hoof. IT WAS A GREAT NIGHT AND A VERY FUN HUNT . P.S. sorry so lengthy but you wanted to hear about it :D
i cant figure out why he is still shooting a mathews LOL but whatever hope to hook up for a hunt or 2 soon
