No such thing I know.........just hear me out. We have the money. That's not an issue, but we don't really want to drop 5 grand on some box blinds if we don't have to. What we are looking for is simple. Trying to give my dad more options for being in the woods. He is done with the weather, and I mean DONE. But the shooting house we made for him is the only option he has now for hunting and staring out over the same food plots gets old after awhile. Blinds would be simple......4x4 or 4x6 max and be in the woods anywhere from 5-10 feet off the ground. My dad only gun hunts but we would hop in one if the weather sucks on a bow day. Should we build them?? Buy fiberglass shells?? I just don't know. I hate to try and cut corners only to have them be a quality dad will not be able to enjoy (drafty or freezing cold). Also I don't want to skimp and build something subpar and have it fall apart in two years. Anyone or any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated guys......thanks in advance.
I build mine with plywood and lumber on poles (4x4) and nice stairs and windows. For years I just put up the poles and a flat platform with rails and used a popup blind but it was cold even with a heater. Redneck stands are the cadillac of blinds IMO. Landlord has two but they are pricey....though my hand built ones are freaking expensive too and overall the boughten ones even at $2500 each with ladder and stand are cheaper....but not as nice. My hand built ones are like a small house with metal roofing.
I might build one in my garage over the winter and see how it goes. I want it light enough to take out and setup without having to assemble a moving party. I really don't know what to do. I keep having this nagging thought that I am going to spend way too much time and effort on building one and then find out I could have just bought one ready to rock for $200 more. No one else hunts out of box blinds??
A lot of guys around here use big game box blinds, think they call them trophy box. Think they go for around $5-600, but think you'd still need to buy the platform so all together its around $7-800. Depending on how fancy you'd want it amd how many you could probably buy a lot of lumber for that price. Usually when building stuff on your own you gotta figure in how much your time is worth, for me right now its not worth much because of my job and not being real busy this time of year. During the rest of the year it'd be a little harder between pouring concrete and farming who wants to work on any down time you get.
We build all of ours. I used to half a** make them so I could hurry up and get them out. Best thing to do in my opinion is take your time. Build it out of plywood insulate it then paint the inside and out. WE use Ice and water dam on the roof instead of shingles. I love hunting out of them. Keeps the noise down and your sent. We are actually going to try and build another one over the next week. MAybe I should film it and we can do a time laps and use it on bow hunt or die.....
A friend built a very nice one. Its 15' high, 5x5 set on telephone poles, framed up with metal siding and roof, insulated, plexiglass Windows. He said he had less than a $1000 in it.
Build them yourself and use decent sliding windows. If you go the elevated route use the Elevators brackets to make life easier: Series_Elevators
