Out of curiosity I decided to see what obamacare would cost me.

According to the ky exchange website, I would pay $705 month. That's my share, the actual cost was over $1300 month. This means the tax payers are picking up the rest, which I guess would be payed by me too.:what:

Sadly, I'll be paying the taxpayer portion whether I sign up or not.

Add to that, many think the quoted prices are going to be too low and will actually be higher.

    I think I'll keep what I have.;)

Just wait until all the 20 somethings that all thought they were getting free health care find out it actually is just a mandate they have to purchase health care. To be a fly on the wall when that happens.

The only upside will be for those with pre existing conditions and the very poor. The very poor already have Medicaid and other programs.

All of which, the taxpayers will be paying for.

Obama is counting on the young and healthy signing up and essentially paying for these 2 groups.

I went a step farther and went all the way through and got quotes. They ranged from $517 month ($4750/12700 deductible) to $1038 ($3500/$7000 deductible)

I really don't understand why we couldn't have just focused on getting help for these 2 groups without all this rediculous overhauling.

The site froze up. :D but before it did, seems there was another page of quotes and one was $1272

    Sounds affordable to me

I think if anyone wants government assistance they should have to take a mandatory drug test
SS, foodstamps, wic and now Obama care just to name a couple.

I am really concerned about those middle class families that have a pre existing and will be mandated to buy health insurance. Will they have to pay the 700-1500 or more ?

I stated in another thread the mandate really didn't concern me as much as the rest of Obamacare but I think I'm changing my mind.

it was designed (and this is backed up by multiple video clips of BHO, Harry Reid and many others) to kill private insurance and bring about socialized (aka "single payer") health care. That is an irrefutable fact. Even honest (if you can find one) liberals will tell you that.

Doesn't matter what snake oil they coat it in, it is doing exactly what it was intended to do.

    Get this.

A 27 year old single guy making $35000 will pay 111% of his cost. His cost will be $274 of the $246 cost. :what:

If they get married, their cost remains the same but they will be paying 56% of a $492 bill.

If these guys don't sign up, this program is going to collapse or they will have to find another way to fund the insurance for the poor.

There is free healthcare in this but not for the 20 somethings. Unless they're still on their parents plans.

    It boils down to this.

This is just another huge entitlement payed for by the middle class.

What will they do when the majority of doctors back out and don't participate? This is already happening.

Will they be forced, I suspect this will be the case.

I'm going to have to disagree with a large part of the statements above. Please hear me out first, though, before commenting.

First of all, a little background. I work in health care. More importantly for this topic, I work in the ER at a major trauma center. I have PHENOMENAL health insurance, so this law doesn't affect me directly. I've kept up with, and researched this thing because of the fact that my mom recently got divorced, and subsequently lost her insurance.

Having said that, this whole program is a joke. Calling this affordable is ridiculous. My mom is looking at paying more than $300 a month after the tax assistance. Even paying that much, the co pay and deductibles are so high, she's never going to be able to go to the doctor. Far from killing private insurance companies, they're the ones who have the most to gain from this. A vast majority of the uninsured will be in the same boat as my mom. Paying through the nose for something they can't afford to use. That means the insurance companies are getting those monthly premiums, and since people STILL can't afford a doctor visit, they're paying fewer claims. On top of that, if you think insurance providers aren't raising their rates, you're delusional. Kaiser Permanente proudly announced they were tripling theirs. Trust me, insurance companies are in NO danger of going away.

As far as entitlements are concerned, nothing has changed. The people getting free health care will still be getting free health care. You're already paying for that.

I think the thing that baffles me the most, is the claim that Obamacare will reduce the number of people using the ER as a primary care. That's patently false. 100% untrue. I see who uses the ER this way. While there ARE people who are uninsured, the VAST majority of people using the ER as a primary care are covered by MediCal. They know they're not going to be paying for that $600 ambulance ride, nor are they paying for the MRI, CT scan, and getting an appointment with a primary doc means they might have to wait until tomorrow. If they call 911, they're going to have an ambulance pick them up and drive them to the ER, and they won't have to wait in the lobby. Obamacare isn't going to make a bit of difference in that regard.

my wife is in health care. I have insurance that is exempt from O care. Other than the possibility of my wife's hours being cut to exempt the hospital from having to offer her health insurance (which doesn't really matter as she is on mine and would actually make slightly more per hour as part time; and the take home $ difference is negligible) I don't have a dog in this fight, other than what's right and what's wrong for America.

Your opinions and observations are noteworthy; however; they do nothing to refute my claim. I'm not even injecting my bias here; I'm not making idealogical arguments as to how it would destroy our country (quite possibly) or be its salvation (vomit) I'm simply stating facts:

Single payer is just lib-speak for socialized medicine. Youtube it - BHO wants single payer. Harry Reid wants single payer. Nearly every progressive politician makes no secret of this when "amongst friends." There are dozens of video clips of the folks I mentioned saying it is their ultimate desire. Now, they know (and openly admit) that most Americans are too independent to accept a sudden takeover of the healthcare system by the US government. So, what better way to accomplish this goal than to make private funded health care so complex and expensive that the low info voters scream for Uncle Sugar to take care of them?

That last paragraph is disturbing. I'd love to say you're being paranoid, but you make a valid point. I honestly hadn't thought about it that way or looked at it from that perspective.

I don't disagree with you but my entitlement comments are based on the fact that they will be taking more revenue, even than they do now and giving it to those that are "less" fortunate.

There will be many that get on a plan for little to no cost to them that the middle will be paying for.

Same goes with pre existing. Insurance companies are now forced to cover them (not saying that's bad, but there are better ways imo) someone will be paying for that. Again, it comes from the middle.

Entitlements are nothing more than taxes that are given to the poor, helpless or lazy.
