I'm wanting to replace all my LW straps and buckles for steps and stand with amsteel and I wanted some advice. Tethrd is where I'm looking and I know I'm behind on the times. I'm wanting to cut all the weight I can without going full saddle just yet. These mountains are kicking my old butt.
    I have a LW asssault2 and a Novix echo.
Also, what's yalls experience with lighter sticks?
So unload your knowledge and show off your own mods please.

Check out a company called hang free www.hangfree.co They have some of the most innovative products I have ever seen for attaching sticks, stand, and etc. There's a bit of a learning curve with some of them but there's tons of videos out there

I’m using 4 LW full sticks with the bottom two sticks having 18” aiders. I can get to 30ft if need be with my lanky ass, if you want to go lighter, run 3 sticks all with aiders and you can get to 20ft or damn close. Same link as above has the aiders I use too.

Thanks guys. It’s time for me to lose the buckles and straps for my mobile set up.

Anybody make a strap long than 8’? I have some longer straps that I use from time to time.

You could contact the amsteel guy, may make what ever size you need. Believe he does it all in house.

I use amsteel daisy chains on my sticks and keep the regular buckle strap for stand. Just easier for me to get my syand tight.

I built all my own. Just got a long length of amsteel and made them while sitting on the couch, watching tv. It is time consuming, but you get exactly what you want. I did 3/16, at about 8 foot long. Never ran out, but i also dont climb big trees, just more dangerous for me.

The daisy chains is made with a double brummel. When i attached to the tree, i do the truckers hitch. Gets very tight. Many ytube videos on all this.

That right there is probably what I'm really going for.

Anybody feel vehemently about a particular stick? One sticks are out. $$$$$$$$$ I actually love the single i have, but sheesh.
    Skeletors look good. Still pricey.

I've done a good bit of looking around, but there's just so many options

I use hawk sticks. They are pretty lightweight and cheap. As a matter of fact they are on sale today on camofire for $89/3. I'm very happy with them but if I were going to change, I would take a serious look at the Lattitude sticks. They are carbon fiber and weigh about 1lb a piece. I believe the price is around $249/3

Another brand I would also consider would be the Muddy Pro sticks. They are reasonably priced at $149/4 and weigh about 10lbs per 4. I love the attachment system they use. It is a cam cleat that you just put the roap through. It is quick, easy, and very lightweight

I think my 3 LW sticks with buckles and straps are 6 pounds, 7 total with my single one stick. I'm just looking to shave weight and still get at least close to 20 feet or more with an extra stick if needed.

I’d just keep your Lw sticks, lose the buckles and add aiders. For the price the oz saved isn’t worth cost to me.

On the subject of aiders, here is something I found recently and I'm looking forward to trying them out. I've had rope aiders and wire aiders and I don't really like them. But recently I ran across these and ordered a couple. My sticks are obviously all out now but when the season is over I'm gonna give thes a try. They look much more stable than rope or cable aiders and I think they will be much easier to use in the dark. Tell me what y'all think.

That is the plan for now. But I also wanted to know everyone's experiences on lighter sticks.

with 4 Skeletors and a 2 step aider, I can get to 17-20 ft (I'm 6-2)... the cord that comes on the sticks is Amsteel, I ordered 2 longer lengths from an aftermarket company and went with 9 ft and 10 ft lengths instead of 8ft which comes with them, I weighted the tag end of the Amsteel so I can toss it around the trees easier as I go up , the longer two Amsteel go low, the shorter goes on the top two sticks ... .. I can go up just about any larger oak or cottonwood.. however, if the tree is too large, it is tough to get the cord around it to cinch down the stick .. my 4 LW sticks now just sit in the attic ...
one thing I did was to "Stealth Strip" the Skeletors, otherwise the metal sound will wake up the woods with clanking .. did the same with the LW's .. the LW's I use a 8mm rope and no the straps ...

I use cable aiders from Double-Steps. They work well and are more sturdy than aiders made from amsteel or straps. My only complaint is that they can get stuck in between boot treads if the gaps between treads are small.

Awesome stuff everyone. I think I have a plan now.

On the sticks. The only reason I considered getting new is the single step side on LW sticks is a pain for me. I've had situations where that got a little hairy, usually on really big trees, but not always.
