Hi, I don't know much about trailcams, but have been learning a lot on this excellent site. Our hunting group have a remote hunting camp and over the last 3 years have had 4 break-ins. We have a few local members who live about 30 mins from the camp and they think they know who it is. I was wondering if a trailcam would do the trick here. I've looked at security cameras and equipment, but the price tag is too high. Some questions I have about trail cams, I hope someone can answer: - Is there one that doesn't flash? It needs to be undetectable to the thief. - For night pictures, is the IR detectable? - Will they withstand temps of -20 F? Thanks in advance...................kd
Pappin 1. Yes, they are IR (Infrared Flash) 2. There are a few companies that make "covert IR Flash" units. A regulat Infrared Flash that is available on most cameras today has a noticeable red glow at night, the new "covert IR" cameras have a filter that make them invisible. This will come at a price though. 3. Yes, most will, but the battery life will be reduced. This is where doing your homework will pay off. Some cameras may last a week or two, others will last 6 months. I am not sure what your price range is, but go to www.trailcameras.com and read the review that I wrote for the Reconyx RC60, they have them for sale on that site. I also have several sample photos posted on that site..... http://www.trailcameras.com/gallery/23/jason-lowmaster.html
Having the smallest footprint in the trail cam industry, Here are a couple examples what Scoutguard has to offer http://www.chasingame.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=11665 Hope this helps
Like already stated, you could go for the kind without the little red light that indicates IR working. They are too expensive for me. I hope you catch them in the act, people like that deserve to spend some time in jail realizing why you dont rob people
