Ive been bowhunting for 5 years now with my brother. We hardly ever hunt together but hes wanting to put down the bow his year and try to catch some of my hunts on video for me. I was wondering if you guys had any tips or advice for us that we could use to our advantage doing this. I know having two people hunting together doubles the human scent in the area so i was a little weary on saying yes but i would love to get some of my kills on video, plus spend some good quality time with him. I was in my climber next to him when he finally shot his first buck and we had a blast! Again any advice from someone who has had a buddy film them in the past would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks, Jordan
I'm just an amateur, but I recommend getting yourself a book and teaching yourself about the basics of filmmaking. It will teach you a lot about lighting, framing and a multitude of other things that will make your shoots that much better. In addition to learning how to film, you'll need to learn how to edit. It isn't that difficult to do, but good editors can make or break the quality of a film. Finally, sound production is extremely important and needs to be done correctly. If you can afford it, get away from using the stock microphone that comes with the camera. Even though these have improved a lot over the years, they pick up any noise that comes from camera operator or mechanical noises from the assembly holding them. Depending on how far away from the camera you'll be, you might be able to get away with a wired microphone that you can clip to your shirt. If you can spring for it though, get yourself a wireless mic. It will get great sound quality from the person hunting. As far as double the amount of scent. Just be more careful about your entries and exists and always play the wind and you'll be fine.
