this evening...i went out saw quite a few deer, screwed up a really nice buck, and right at dark a doe and two fawns came out. I am on the ground, they'll pass by at about 15 yards, a little one sees me draw, but just stops and mom keeps coming. when she is in my shooting lane, I let one fly, and hear a distinct "whack" (almost like hitting a soft bag) they all run off... I can find no arrow, no blood, and no deer. I've not shot a deer with a bow before and have missed twice thus far this year. I am fairly certain I hit her, but can not find a spec of blood. I had a good light but gave up till the AM - thoughts??? also while walking out to get a light, one of the little ones would not leave the field. i got within 10 yards of her before she ran, and when she did, she only went like 20 yards. didn't shoot cause couldn't see pins, and wanted to find the one before I shot another.

give it until morning perhaps the youngin was staying in the feild because mama went down? i shot a big doe 2 years ago with my muzzeloader and it went 60 yards before it started painting the forest red. but youre doing the right thing by waiting until morning also maybe if your state allows it give the tracking dogs a try, couldnt hurt good luck!

actually yes lol it was a gut shot with my muzzel loader since you mentioned that! but she didnt go far after she started bleeding out. but youre probably right on wth the gut shot. and as far as the dogs you can call your local dnr office or google blood tracking dogs or deer tracking dogs in whichever county and state youre in\

DId tburgee say it was a gut shot? If you cannot find an arrow it might still be in the deer or at least it traveled with her for awhile. Look in the daylight tomorrow and take it slow.

Ive gut shot a few and the sound you describe like hitting a soft bag is what it sounds like when you hit far back.Arrow might still be in her and Intestines might have clogged the hole. If you didnt push her she'll probably be within a few hundred yards.

Here is a buck my buddy gut shot and there was no blood because of the intestines clogging the hole.We ended up finding him about 250 yards away from where he shot him the next morning.

Well along with going to where he ran we grid searched and combed thick areas. We found a place where he bedded(real flat leaves) and i flipped the leaves over with my hand and found a small amount of blood under the leaves , looked ahead of me saw two other flat spots 10 yards apart in the leaves and there he layed 10 yards from the last bed .
