hey there, just want to say nice forum, and i am now glad to be part of it. i just got a new PSE Bow Madness XS bow, havent shot it yet, well, i have to say, im new to archery. i see that you can adjust the draw length without a bow press. i also see that on the cam, there are lettered holes that have screws in them. i contacted pse, and they told me that i needed to place the corrisponding lettered holes to match on both the draw length, and the stop. now, does "adjustable without a bow press" mean that i can safetly take the screws out with it sitting on my bench? i just dont want anything to fly off and take out my good eye!! thanks guys, brian. p.s. if you must know, i want to be able to go shoot it with it set up as it is, and then try to adjust the draw length and see if its any better, without having to make a stop back at the dealer i got it from, which is pretty far away. i guess i should also ask another question: what is let off and how does it affect the bow performance. it says that the let off is adjustable from 65-80%. i believe from the factory, its set at 80%. thanks guys, for all the help, and again nice forum. Brian
let off is the percentage of the weight that is relieved from you holding at full draw. IE 70-(70x80%)= 14#'s at full draw for a 70# bow.with 80% let off. the lower the let off, the more energy you get going to the arrow. The screws should be on rotating modules that are not under pressure, and sage to move. should be able to tell just by looking at the cams.
so... the closer i go towards 65% letoff, the more energy and speed goes into the arrow? correct??? is a very significant amount, or only a couple fps? thanks, brian. anyone know of a good read that explains all this stuff? i have always been a rifle guy, but now, i have gotten bittin by the bow bug and want to learn all i can about archery as well as rifelry. making arrows, correcly tuning, accessorizing, and good shooting is what i want to achieve. thanks guys, for all the help. brian.
Yes, but especially in the beginning, I would be more interested in being able to hold the weight longer than eeking out a few FPS in arrow speed. I'd start with the 80%, and switch to 65% when your muscles are in shape, and you have your bow properly tuned, and your form is good and repeatable, and, and, and....:D I shoot 80% let-off, I'd rather be able to comfortably hold it at full draw longer while I wait for the right shot to present itself. JMO.
You will find that a quiet bow is a much cooler thing than a fast bow. lol all kindsa reads out there. The easton tuning guide is a great one, unfortunatly my laptop power supply took a crap today, otherwise i would link yah. not usually one to drop sites. But over on Huntingnet.com's forum they have quite a few stickied Topics about form, tuning, setup and more.
