For those that hunt with an adjustable single pin sight, how often to need to adjust the pin while shooting? Do you set it for the most common distance you plan to shoot an animal and aim higher or lower if need be, or do you adjust it for the proper yardage before the shot? I have used a Trophy Ridge Matrix fixed 3-pin (set at 20, 30, 40) for a couple years, but I was recently given a HHA OL-3000. I sighted it in today out of 40 yards. I like the single pin and ability to adjust it to the yardage I'm shooting at. I have never shot at a deer over 30 yards and even then I had plenty of time to shoot as the deer was feeding. I do prefer the .019 pins on the Martix vs. the .029 that are on the HHA. Just looking for some experiences with those who hunt with an adjustable single pin sight.
I've shot a single pin for the last 5 years, and freakin love it. It's just as simple as can be. In a hunting situation, I leave my pin set for 25 yards. The ballistics my bow and arrow combo give me cause my impact to be 1 1/2" high and 20 yards, and 1 3/4" low at 30 yards. I hold center mass and let 'er eat. If the shot will be closer than 20 or more than 30 I have to adjust, but it takes merely seconds. Or, just hold low or high.
Ive used a single pin site for sometime now. Id say around 12 years. I love it. I leave it set at 20 yards and practice out to 40 or so. No need to adjust really just compensate for the distance.
