I have a shotgun mic right now. What is needed and what are some suggestions for adding a wireless mic? Thanks Clayton
That particular camera only has one microphone input, which you're probably already using for your shotgun mic. If you want to continue running that shotgun plus a wireless mic, you'll need to pick up an XLR adapter/mixer. This is a box that mounts to the bottom of your camera and plugs into your existing microphone port, then allows you to attach two microphones to it. One will record on the left channel, one will record on the right channel. You'll then have to mix the audio together when you edit the videos. This box here works well, and fits nicely on the smaller cameras - http://www.campbellcameras.com/shop...apter-for-Mini-Plug-Cameras__301BEADXA2T.aspx As for the wireless mics, there's a lot of different options. Assuming you're going to use the 3.5mm mini plug from your current shotgun mic into the XLR adapter, you'll need to either get a set of mics that use the larger XLR plugs, or get an XLR to 3.5mm adapter. For someone on a tight budget, these mics work fairly well - http://www.campbellcameras.com/shopping/Products/Samson-Wireless-Mic-UM1-77__305SAMUM177.aspx If you can spring for them, these are the mics we use. The quality is better than the Samson, but you pay for it. http://www.campbellcameras.com/shop...a-Mount-Wireless-Microphone__305SENEW112.aspx
Are the Samson's worth the price increase over the cheaper $140-$160 range mics? I want something to work well for me but I don't record my hunting for a living or anything so price is an issue. I don't want to piss away $160 either when another $60 would get me a nice mic setup. Do I need a bracket for holding the receiver as well? And then will that in turn cause me to get a multi-shoe adapter thing too? Thanks for the info Justin
I don't know that the Samsons are any better in quality, but one of your two mics needs to be using XLR when you get that adapter. Since your existing shotgun is taking up that spot, that only leaves the wireless. Of course you can get an XLR to 3.5mm adpater for around $15, so you would still be dollars ahead if you went with the Azdens. I don't have experience with them, so I don't know how they sound. If I were you I'd call the guys at Campbell Cameras, they can give you some good feedback and point you in the right direction. As for mounting, there's plenty of different ways to do it. Most of the guys running the smaller cameras buy some sort of multi-mount for their shoe that allows you to attach a few different accessories to it like your wireless mic, shotgun, light, etc. Of course you're going to drop another $100 or so on an adapter, but I suppose that' just part of the program unless someone else can chime in with a cheaper way to do it.
get the beachtek dxa 2t plug ur shotgun into that then get ur wireless mic and plug that into the other channel of the beachtek all you need! its 2 channels and one can be used as a mini 3/8 plug or xlr plug..
This isnt really related to your question but I was wondering how you like your Canon HF S30? Im looking on getting one.
I like it. I got it before last deer season and enjoyed filming myself. It took me quite a few hunts to get used to how to use everything in an efficient manner. I made a DVD for personal viewing and actually my dad liked it so much that he is the one suggesting the wireless mic and agreed to letting me film him. I got one bow shot on film and 1 gun shot on film. The only thing I'm trying to fix before this next season is the little LCD viewing screen is very shiny and reflects the sky really bad. I'm going to get a matte screen cover to put over it.
