For several years we have been making more and more progress in lifting the Sunday Hunting Ban here in VA. Past bills have done well but have never made it to a full vote on the floor because they were always killed by a notorious sub committee referred to as the Death Panel here in VA because any SH legislation they saw they killed as most of the members were in bed with the VAHDA(Virginia Hunting Dog Alliance, the main opposition to Sunday Hunting in VA). This group is now trying to add confusing amendments to the bill to let local County Supervisors strike it down in their counties. Fortunately this year it HB1237 will not be going to the sub-committee it wil be going to a full vote but support is needed. You can cut and paste the information below in an email to your Delegate: As my Delegate I am respectfully asking you to support HB1237 as written and passed by the House AG Committee without further Amendment. The local option amendment is confusing, unmanageable and virtually unenforceable. In addition, it strips away the intent of the bill that has passed which is private property rights and puts the decision back into the Governing body. The difference in hunting seasons county-to-county is already confusing enough, if local option is passed it will be a total mess. Our opposition knows it. Once again, Please support HB1237 as passed by the AG Committee. I also encourage all Virginia hunters to write their representatives. Even if you don't care about being able to hunt on Sunday, it's a private property issue. We just want the ability to hunt our own land.
