This is likely going to be HUGE for my 2010 season (hopefully beyond). All the time and effort I put in driving around aimlessly, reviewing aerials, researching county GIS info, and glassing has finally paid off.

After knocking on many doors and getting rejection after rejection, I finally got a break. This is a small hobby farm that has crops consisting of mainly a large garden (~10 acres), a large field of sweet corn (~40 acers) and a huge cedar swamp (~30 acres).

Based on my glassing, it appeared this area was overrun with deer. Well I determined who the owners were, (the farmhouse is abandoned so no one lives on the property), printed off an aerial showing where their property boarders are and approached them at their home. Turns out the owners are pissed because the deer are causing so much damage to their farm. They were a little hesitant at first citing safety and liability concerns. I informed them about WI state law that prevents property owners from any liability while allowing recreational access to their property unless the have intent to hurt the hunter. They didn't want any firearms used and stated they never thought of having a bow hunter come to their property. So they are going to give me a chance. I guess the timing could not of been more perfect.

I told them I will certainly will do what I can to help them with their deer overpopulation problem.... :moose: .

I've never had access to hunt a so called "premium" piece of land before (including gun hunting). This will be a new experience EXPECTING to see some deer every time I hunt this spot. I will have to control myself not to overhunt it. And I need to keep the pressure low to get a shot at an early season buck.

As soon as this heat and humidity goes away around here I can't wait to get out there and scout. Hopefully this weekend. :nana:
