Whites and reds are building up here. Last year was a complete failure.

In my part of central Minnesota the acorns are not dropping yet and there barely growing still very small and green this season. I have 6 that surround my house and porch nothing yet on the ground. I have a ton on my 53 acres and I dont think its a good year for them maybe next year here.

Bur is a sub species of the white oak...not the same, but in the same family.

One of our horses loves the acorns, I put them out in the morning to feed them hay outside he goes and eats all the acorns that fell over night before he will touch his hay.

just noticed yesterday the Red Oaks are starting to pop and are all green now. We had a great year with acorns last year here where I hunt, (sadly all Reds) and looks like this year it'll be another good year of acorns dropping. hoping to get out in the next day or so to check all the trees on the property.

I have been employed by the MN DNR division of forestry for 19 years I have been on hand for acorn screening when the public brings in acorns to sell. I am well aware of floaters being bad. I have been cursed by people that have raked and sorted 100 pounds of floaters.

Also take the acorns all of them and throw them in the chest freezer, wait till winter hits and snow on the ground and dump those acorns out on the food plot and they will be gone by morning worms or not.

Still too early for acorn drop here in SE Pa. Usually around the first or second week of Sept here. I do see lots of acorns on the red oaks though. It's been my experience that the white oaks, at least in my area, produce acorns but every other year. I've had to wait 3 years for two particular giant whites to produce! When they do drop though, I kill a doe under them every time.

I noticed a red oak dropping acorns, but every one of them looked like these. I think this has something to do with all the rain we got this season, but they shouldn't be dropping the first week in August.
