To anyone that has had acl surgery, how long before you started hunting again? I amtrying to decide whether to buy a bow license this year or skip bowhunting this year. I am 2gonna months post-op and I have been cleared to be in the woods, but there will be no climbing this year.
Season starts mid sept. I will defiantly not ne able to go in sept and prob not in oct unless I find someone willing to drag for me...ps therapy is going great...another thing to add is I am almost 29 and planning on a return to soccer after not playing for 11 years. So I don't know if I should just play it safe this fall or get out there as soon as the doc clears me for weight load of a deer, which he is thinking november, which is when our gun season is
By month 3-4 you WILL be able to bowhunt jdweim. Be careful walking in the woods in the morning and coming out in the dark. You can use a portable climber without much of a problem. I tore both of my acl's in college and both required surgery.
Appreciate the info, although I still think I will stay on the ground this year. I have never used a climber and it doesn't seem like a good time to learn. I also am on my second surgery right acl at 16, now left at 28
I tore my ACL twice, first time repaired with my petellar tendon and recovery was long but hunted in about a month with a climber. Second time used a cadaver tendon and I could have been hunting in two weeks. Both were basketball injuries, good luck.
I've torn mine and had it replaced, wrestling injury. I was back on the mat wrestling live matches in 3 months after surgery. If I was hunting at the time I could have been back in the tree in 5 to 6 weeks. I think you should be good to go for the season. How is your rehab coming along? Do you feel ready? Obviously you should not listen to any of us if your not ready because everyone's body is different.
i have had 3 acl surgeries all after age 38. the last one i was able to use my climber after 3 1/2 months. dont rush it, there will still be time. god bless and good luck.
Thanks for the responses, rehab still coming along good. I am two and a half months post-op now I feel like I would be comfortable in the woods now, not sure about climbing trees yet though
Depends on a number of things. How good of shape you're in before surgery, how old are you, how much time between injury and surgery, how hard you work afterward, if there are any setbacks, etc. Everyone is different and not every ACL surgery goes the same. I say buy a license as it gives you something to work for. Having the chance to get back in the woods might give the motivation to work hard. Climbing into a treestand might be tough if your range of motion doesn't come back quickly, but hunting from the ground could be possible. Lastly, listen to your PT.
