there are those who use smaller than 2 inch fletching and are winning Vegas and Spot rounds ... as long as you use a good helical or a strong offset, I dont think the length between a 2 or 3" vane matters for most compounds, to an extent... generally the wider the head, the more control the average archer needs ... feathers by their nature control great BTW... ... for me I use 2 inch Blazers for my fixed heads, Mech's and all my target/indoor/3D shooting, all fletched Helical ..... Ive tried the 4 vane vs 3 vanes and could not tell the difference in grouping size, plus I didnt want that extra weight on the rear, there is enough with the lighted nock as it is. For me there was a noticeable impact height difference with the 4 vanes hitting lower by 2-3 inches at 40 and 50 yds .. ..... some like the 4 vanes, I dont see a need for 'em ... but hey, they look cool .. I'm very anal in my bow tuning, so with 3 Blazer vanes I get good arrow flight and my BH's/FP's and mech's will all have same POI out to 50 yds when I'm done ..

Any talk about length with out talking about the vane height is useless. If your going to steer broadheads you need something that is the .5 to .55 height range. The higher the vane profile the shorter they could be and the converse is also true.
