5 years ago my dad and his GF bought a house up in Northern WI, about 2 miles from where my grandparents used to live. This was always the vacation spot for our family and he wanted to keep that tradition going after they left. With his passing a few months back the house is now partially my responsibility, so I took a trip up this past weekend to check on things, do a little yard work and get some fishing in. My grandpa's 14' Alumacraft that he bought new back in '86 is now mine as well, so I took it out with my brother-in-law. Didn't catch anything huge, but we had a blast. Boated somewhere around 23 or 24 bass yesterday morning and enjoyed a relaxing weekend getting away from the rat race. Good times. Big E making sure the boat doesn't float away. Look for this stud muffin in our videos this fall, I'll be filming him trying to kill his first deer! First fish of the day on Saturday morning. Sunrise yesterday morning. 'Twas a cool 60 degrees, a much needed break from all this stupid heat! Loon! This was about the average size of the fish we were catching yesterday morning. Started off with some topwater but when that died down the 5" whacky rigged Senko was killing 'em. Good stuff. The dogs ready go home. Mine on the left, my sister's beast on the right. The more I leave Illinois the more I never want to come home. Man does it suck around here. And this one's for you Fitz. :D
Looks like an awesome weekend bud! Makes me miss my youth spending every weekend in the Spooner area. How's your stomach?
Looks awesome...just great to have a place like that. And if I was in the Chicagoland part of IL...I would feel the same...
Nothing a little Ibuprofen won't keep at bay. If I die you can have my treestands at the lease. Willand gets the rest of my hunting stuff.
Is the water clean and clear In northern Wisconsin too? That's one thing I notice every time I go up to northern Minnesota, crystal clean water compared to where I live In central Minnesota. Great pics Justin, keep the tradition going!!
Spooner wisconsin is like my second home as well. I always vacationed on a 400 acre lake just west of spooner for two weeks when growing up since a baby. Now my parents have had a cabin on this lake for 10 years or so now. My brother is a deputy for burnett county and lives in webster wisconsin. He is a bigtime musky fisherman, so when ever we get a chance to get up there, i'm casting for muskies fishing out lakes around hayward like grindstone, among many others. It is hard getting up there since my passion is bowhunting so I try to save those vacation days for hunting season. Thanks for the post justin, it brings back many memories for me as well. I love it up there, it's peaceful, fun and like you said you don't feel like coming back home.
What lake is the cabin on? Our's is 30 minutes west on Mallard Lake....about 20 minutes or less from Webster.
It's crazy how many people vacation/visit that area up there. Everywhere I went I was running into people from Illinois and Southern WI. Our place is North of Spooner in Trego, right on the Namekagon River. Lots of hot drunk chicks tubing down the river when it's warm out.
Damn, I just looked at the map and we have a lake house right up the road toward Hayward on Sand Lake if I remember correctly.
I know where all those spots are, have tubed down that river many times before, it is fun. My parents place is on lipsett lake. you take hwy 70 west from spooner to perch lake road, it is about 7 miles, then head north to dock lake road, just a couple miles down road. I am also familiar with trego, my buddy still owns rv park on trego flowage(bay park resort) , me and my brother have fished the flowage for years for musky. We should all plan a long weekend one of these years and meet up, up there. That would be fun!
