Ome of the most respected Americans of our age; Norman Schwarzkopf passed this weekend. Some of you younger guys may not remember his leadership in Gulf War 1 but when the news was predicting tens of thousands of American casualties in Iraq, Stormin Norman was steady and calm. The ominous cloud was quickly transformed into glee as American forces routed the Iraqis.

I was at Charleston AFB at the time and one of the the main staging areas for those mobilizing. I remember the base gym being converted into a hospital to handle the expected casualties. I remember how so many C141 Starlifters were on the ramp that we were stagger parking them with wingtips nearly touching. America lost a rare and great hero this week. I only wish he would have run for President after the war, he would have made a great one.

    Died Dec. 27 (b. 1934)

Norman Schwarzkopf, widely known as "Stormin' Norman," was a US Army general who served as commander of coalition forces in the Gulf War. He is best known for commanding the US-led coalition that drove Saddam Hussein's forces from Kuwait in 1991.

What is truly sad is the fact that with all of the great men America has produced over the years, you look to Washington and the despicable, unethical self serving narcissist that we have elected.

It is a sad time for America.

Norman was a great leader, RIP.

I believe it was General Schwarzkopf that said one of my favorite military quotes. "Going to war without the french is like going hunting without your accordian." Great soldier's general!
