passed away today. Glenn McDole, a survivor of the massacre at Palawan in the Philippines during WWII, one of the men responsible for the rescue of 500 American Prisoners of War at Cabanatuan, and a 30 year retiree of the Iowa State Patrol went on to Eternal Watch today after many illnesses. Even though Glenn spent 3 1/2 years in a Prisoner of War camp, when Uncle Sam called him back for the Korean War, without reservation Glenn reported in to go back to war. Glenn was a personal friend of mine and I a better man for knowing him. America lost a Patriot today and we should be thankful to Glenn and the others like him that put America first.

I decided to do my own thing! I lowered my flag to half staff yesterday and it will remain there until the day after Glenn is carried to his final resting place. All day long the memories came back of time we spent together. I thought for a minute I was gonna be a little lost, but then realized he'll always be there for guidance. As that realization came to me, I got a warm feeling and peace.
