One of the tigers was shot in a barn lot. He was attacking the homeowners horses. My department had to shoot a lion that escaped from some nuts "enclosure". One of our snipers was walking through tall grass and almost walked right up on it. Had to shoot it point blank with a .308 sniper rifle. Then the moron sued our department for killing his "pet".
Finch, They tried to tranquilize one of the tigers and it became aggressive after the shot and had to be destroyed. There were just no real good options, and the owner I'm sure knew the mess he was creating when he did this. As I said elsewhere, he'd revel in the chaos that his acts created if he were able to see the end result, yet I'm sure as he's burning in hell he never go that "reward." Unfortunately, many animals were destroyed in the name of safety, and living in the community where this happened, and knowing some of the characters personally, I wouldn't second guess the law enforcement guys actions at all. As for the very large Tiger, I believe he had a "Liger" which is a hybrid that usually results in an animal larger than either of the species used to create it. Ohio has relatively lax laws on the keeping of such animals. And while I'll never be an animal rights activist, I think at some level a bit of common sense needs to come into play, be it dealing with a lady with 40 domestic cats that is neglecting them or a man with over 50 exotic species, neither in the overall realm sounds like a good arrangement for the animals or the people involved. I don't know what the right answer is, however, I know that if I had a neighbor who "offed himself," after setting free dozens of exotic predators near my home, I'd be more than welcoming when the law enforcement came to kill these animals in lieu of one of these animals killing myself, members of my family, or my neighbors. I certainly can't question a deputy who is dealing with a massive number of very capable predators when his duty is to protect and serve the public if he ends the lives of those animals while performing his duty. "Catch a tiger by the tail" is a phrase that wasn't meant to be taken seriously!!!
Jack Hanna was on the Today Show this morning. He was involved in trying to do something to save the animals. He said there was no choice but to put them down. It was nearing dark and there were just to many of them. He said the zoo had 4 tranqualizer guns but it would have been too little and the animals could travel sometimes up to 10 minutes before it takes effect.
Last night they said you cannot use tranquilizes on them at night. Apparently they become crazy instead of being sedated. Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
That is some photo. I heard an interview on the radio with one of the cops/sherrifs/LEOs and he sounded like it was a tough night.
I must be pretty cold. I don't blame the police one bit for shooting them. When I saw that picture of all the dead predators laying around my first thought was "wow, I wonder how much his feed bill was." I do agree that it's a waste, in that they probably just buried or incinerated the animals and didn't turn any of them into a nifty rug.
Movie-Napolean Dynamite I hated it the first time I saw it, then something happened...I'm in the cult! We watch it a few times a year and laugh our butts off every time.
