I took my cousin's son with me to my cabin last weekend. He is going into the Marine Corp to fly Helicopters when he graduates. He has always wanted to learn to hunt but his father passed away and never was much into it.

I've sorta adopted him and have taken him with me a few times.

He was hunting with my rifle, so I put him in a big ladder stand, and I slipped into one of my hang ons that I put up after turkey season. I had not been to it since I hung it...when I got there I was really excited... a fresh scrape was 20 yards directly in front of it and there are about 6 different highly used trails intersecting right at the stand.
(Friday afternoon) I hear a deer coming towards me shuffling through the oaks in front of me, I get ready, and then hear a deer coming at me at a trot from behind me...I turn and see a large big bodied deer with a decent rack, (but could not get a good look at it) trot right down the trail with his head out stretched and nose up , lips curled...he passed by me at 20 yards and never slowed down...he went right at were I heard the other deer.

    My nephew saw two does.

Sat. a.m. I didn't see anything. My nephew saw two more does and what he thinks was yote.

During the middle of the day we bushhogged my foodplots and then as I was coming back down the road on the tractor my busk was standing in the road with his head down, when I came around the turn he lifted his head, looked at be and bolted into the woods, going right at my stand....

So, I'm pumped up and ready for the afternoon hunt....I put my nephew back in the stand, head to mine, and see there is a second scrape right next to the first scrape...so I hang some estrus wicks, climb my tree. haul my bow up, nock an arrow, hang it and BBBLLLAAAMMMMM. My nephew shoots.

Thus ended my hunting for the weekend...as I had to help him out since he had never killed a deer.

He is going to email me the picts. and I'll get them up....

Weighed about 140 and was a 3 point.

I also found a 6' Cane Break Rattle Snake, that had just eaten what looked (by the size of the bulge) a rabbit. The snake was within 20 yards of his ladder stand.

The Boy is Hooked now. BUt I did tell him, that now since he has seen how to retrieve and clean a deer, he is on his own in the future, until hunting time is over. lol.

Sorry for the long, no bow kill post. but it was good to pass the tradition down to the Lad.
