Get the combine out of the barn and harvest your darn corn!!!!!

I am sick of listening to the deer walk around in it and not expose themselves during daylight.

    That is all.

I'm with you too. We have about 90 acres of standing corn still on our farm, and its ALL around my 5 spots that I hunt there. All the deer sign is concentrated in the fields, and all my trail cam pics are coming with nothing but nocturnal activity.

Talked to the farmer today, and it's still going to be some time before it comes out. They are calling for rain on and off all week, so hopefully by early next week he can get in there and get it out.

I heard the neighbor cutting some corn tonight when I was leaving my stand, just give it time and those deer will be grazing in the open at 20 yards broadside!

I actually like the standing corn. :) I hope it stays until rifle season is over.

    1. The duck hunters can't hunt it and push the deer out of the area.

    2. They are not nocturnal in a corn field.

    3. I ground hunt and can use it to my advantage. There is always a slough inside or along a corn field here. They make great spots to hunt.

    4. It is usually windy so accessing the corn and not busting the deer out of it isn't too much of a problem.

    5. In wet/windy weather I can still hunt the edge.

    6. I just found out where two of my trail cam bucks are hiding/hanging. I had a suspicion and confirm it Sunday night. A 20 acre patch of corn with a cattail slough right beside it. They have quite a few lady friends in there with them so they shouldn't be leaving anytime soon. I plan on sitting 3-4 rows in with a "V" shooting lane going into the corn 15 yards on the downwind side of the corn field. They should have a trail by now. Put a little scent on a cob or make a scrape in the middle of the open end of the " V" so their head is out of sight. Sneak into the corn around 9 AM and sit all day. When they come by scent checking their girl friends... :) I am hoping for a windy day.

If it was that easy we would lol...The fields are too wet and the moisture level in the corn is not right for harvesting. Most of the corn around the state is still sitting between 30%-50% moisture. For good harvesting, it should be atleast 20% moisture. The corn was in early enough this year but it started out so dry then we got rain at peak growing time therefore its holding the moisture longer. It shouldnt be long, once we get into steady freeze nites it should dry down nice. As long as we dont get too much more rain we can get into the fields and get it off. Good luck and be patient with us. We can only do what we can when mother nature says we can....

I do get why they are not harvesting it. I was just making a point that I'm ready for the corn to come down. :)

I talked to my one farmer yesterday, where I took the doe. He said his corn moisture is still at 28% and he'll lose to much money (in the drying process) if he harvests with it that moist. He says he needs a good dry, couple of weeks yet!

PS .... yes to my untrained eye, it looks brown and dry..but it shows how little I (we) know about money crops!
