I've been browsing through new bows online lately. (bad idea when you don't need one!) I've really been intrigued by the newer lines from Hoyt (The Nirtrum and CarbonSpyder). But, what is the difference between the hunting compounds and target archery compounds? Can a target bow be used hunting?

Sorry for a newbie question, but thanks in advance!

basicly target bows have a longer ATA and lower draw weights then hunting bows... they also come in some pretty wild colors... you can use them for hunting if you want but with the cost difference, and the bigger bow, I'd stay with a hunting bow myself

That's what drew me in - the color. But, I saw the catagory it was under and didn't know there was a difference.

They are generally longer, more mass weight, lower let off, and then a bunch of small mostly unnoticeable differences. Sure you can use them, but I see no need. Only hoyt target rig I'd hunt with is the pro edge elite. It's even offered in camo finish

Edit: looks like the camo is no longer an option but saw it last year

I set this rig up online. I love it (minus the $1300 price tag). Maybe I can find it in their hunting line.

    Thanks for answering my question!
