20... 25... 30... Hell, I don't know. I've shot a lot of bucks with my bow. I've honestly lost count. A lot of nice ones. A lot of dinks. I've shot 'em in the snow, in the rain, in the heat, in the cold. I've shot 'em in every state that I can reach in my car. I've shot 'em on weekdays. I've shot 'em in the morning. I've shot 'em in the evening. I've got 'em on opening day. I've got 'em on the last day. I've shot 'em with aluminum arrows, carbon arrows, light arrows, heavy arrows... I've killed 'em with mechanical heads, thunder heads, muzzy heads, nitron heads, punchcutters, tri-loks, inner-locs, triskas, wasps, montecs, mini-blasters, bloodtrailers, etc... I've shot 'em with bowdoodles, tm-hunters, biscuits, dropaways, star hunters, overdraws, string suppressors, pins, sliders, sights and rests of all shapes and sizes.... I've used every camo pattern imaginable. Open patterns. Closed patterns. Blue jeans. Flannel. Blaze Orange. It doesn't matter. Honestly. I've locked my keys in the car. I've forgot my arrows, my flashlights, my release . . . hell, one day I even forgot my bow. I've had scentproof chit, army surplus, rubber boots, leather boots, warm boots, cold boots... I've even hunted deer in a pair of Bostonian Wingtips. But I've never killed two bucks out of the same tree. That's remarkable. It's a testament to something, but I just can't figure out what. Am I nuts? Why is everything always changing? Why do I find something that works, then keep abandoning it, only to find a new system - that works just as well as the "old" system? Why keep picking new trees? Makes ya wonder what really matters. Makes ya think. Why? Why all the fuss every year, when the results never change? Weird.
Quick, certainly a cool perspective. I've shot bucks out of the same tree 4 times. Can't say I've matched up with a lot of the other things on your list, though
After nearly 30 bowseasons, like you Fran, been there done that. Just tonight I was setting up Sticklers Admiral when I got my first ever compound out, 1980something Bear Black Bear II and flung some arra's. Got me thinking, after I fill my buck tag, (optimistic), I'm thinking about getting it out for some does.
I have killed two bucks and a doe out of the same tree.I have also shot a buck and a doe out of the same tree in the same sit. To address your thought. No need to reinvent the wheel. You win the game with solid fundamentals.
I think Quick means why go through all the fuss to scout, shed, get the latest and greatest...when a buck could walk by that same tree, and be shot with that same bow/arrow combo with the same duds on. Good post Fran, and I think it has alot of merit. Now that way would not be as fun, and I could never brag about all my scouting skills, shooting ability etc...if I killed em the same way every year:D Rob, that would be awsome, and I would love to see that bow across the chest of a PA deer. Think it will still kill em after all these years
I've sat on this egg for a few minutes now, and I think I've taken this train of thought to its logical end. It's not the gear. It's not even the location. It's the method. Hunting places come and go. Your camo gets holes in it. Bows get beat-up. Arrows bend. Boots wear out. Broadheads rust. But whitetails never change. No matter how you color it, the rules of the game are always the same. It's the gameboard that changes. The players and the gamesmanship never do.
:D Fran, watch how you use the word Dink, im sensative to that ya know :D I have killed multiple mucks from the same tree in several places. :D and I dont like sheep either big guy
Danno, I swear to god, I just got back in the house from a half-hour ride around the neighborhood to shine some deer. I drove past this sheep farm, and there was this sexy little number standing off by herself... "Bahhhhh." I thought of you and Germ, and the great times you two would have on that farm.
Keep it simple. Deer hunting is not that complicated, some of us make it much more complicated than it is however. Why? I have no idea really, maybe to feel like they have accomplished something of great significance. Who knows?
Problem is when those sheep here Bloodcrick is coming they head for the hills. They've heard about those fingers. <BAM>
