For those of you the read my story about the buck I shot in Iowa this year, I told you about a huge buck I let walk broadside at 8 Yards. because I knew how much by buddy J loved that buck. Even though he told me to kill him if I saw him.. At the time I was out there, J hadnt seen him all season in the daylight ...only at night ...when he had patrolled his property for poachers..Anyway...He had a couple years of pix and a set of sheds off of. Well, I am glad I passed him up. J killed him in the late Muzzleloader season at 24 yards .. He ended up grossing 188 with 5 different tines either broken or chipped up.. we had him at 192 gross via trail cam pix.. we were very close.. without those broken and chipped tines..I am hoping J might let me post a pix of him.. but if he doesnt want too I understand why, He likes keeping his land on the down low. I am still waiting on a few field photos.. this buck was a monster for a 4.5 year old.. A few neat things about the buck.. 22 and change inside/24 plus outside, 6 inch bases, 15 points including a 7 3/4 inch droptine and the buck weighed over 300lbs live weight.
I said it in your thread on your buck a few months ago....it shows a lot about your character, and how good of a friend you must be, for you to pass that buck up for your buddy to MAYBE have a chance at him later. Congrats to him on what sounds like a stud buck.
I'll be damned!! Good to hear your buddy got him. Had to be exciting for him and for you!! Congratulation's to J!!!
be pretty hard for me to let something like that walk too:D its awesome you did it for your buddy though and glad it turned out the way it did!
Congrats to him on a great buck !! I am glad he got him since you passed on him. Great ending to a really great story !! Tim
That's excellent Troy! I still struggle with the mind set of those who couldn't let that deer walk! Your an invited guest of a friend at some incredibly prime hunting ground. No deer no matter how big is worth compromising a friendship or the respect of a friend.
Man, I'd love to get a look at that big boy! I am truely happy for you that you had such an awesome trip to Iowa
